TLDR : Answer Summary
When entering Thailand on a tourist visa with a 30 or 45-day stay, you may not be strictly required to show a ticket out of Thailand at immigration. However, airlines may require proof of onward travel before allowing you to board your flight. It's advisable to have an onward ticket, which can be a budget ticket to a nearby country, as airlines often enforce this rule to ensure they won't be liable for passengers who overstay their visas. Many travelers recommend buying a 'throwaway' ticket as a precaution.

Is it enough to have onward ticket by bus or must be an airticket?

years ago we travelled many times and a return ticket 6 months later to our home always worked once we told them our overland travel plans eg. Malaysia Singapore Indonesia home to Aust. But same a bit nervous doing this in a months time. My fall back is I will buy a throw away ticket in the line. Just don’t get to the airport late to give enough time to do this if needed.

I purchased a throw away ticket while waiting to board my flight after hearing the gate agent asking people to show an onward ticket. Search onward tickets, they are very inexpensive to nearby Asian countries. I just showed the agent the reservation on my phone.

If you come with a visa, I assume that you don't because it is already a requirement for having the visa approved.

Brandon gave you perfect advice , I had to show proof of vaccinations etc before Qatar let me on flight but they have records of my return , came here last month with same thing with Klm , they won’t let you on flight because they have to get you back , had all my stuff together , insurance , covid19, return flight details , ., absolutely no problem at immigration , twice in last month I’ve entered on visa except , no problem , but everyone wearing masks , maybe change Friday . Well I’m back in khon kaen now , seriously no problem

very good point , you could be traveling elsewhere via bus , different airline , that’s not there problem, hopefully on Friday you won’t need to show covid19 cert either , but immigration might .

Your airline is much more likely to give you problems than immigration. Your airline might not let you board your flight if you cannot show proof of travel out of Thailand within the number of days you will be stamped in for.
