If you are entering Thailand with a visa exemption from Aus as a tourist do you need to provide proof of $$$ or just accommodation and onward flight? Wasn't sure if I needed to bring cash with me? Thank you. 🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
When entering Thailand with a visa exemption as a tourist from Australia, you may be asked to provide proof of funds, specifically 20,000 baht or its equivalent in another currency. However, this request primarily occurs if immigration suspects irregularities or has concerns regarding your entry. Generally, tourists without a suspicious history are unlikely to be questioned about their funds. In addition to proof of finances, you should have evidence of accommodation and a return or onward flight. While presenting cash is advisable due to varying acceptance of cards in the country, many travelers find that the entry process is straightforward and experience little hassle regarding these requirements.

Also immigration officers can ask you to show 20,000 baht in cash or the equivalent in foreign currency upon arrival, although this rarely happens, so just be aware of this. Also there are no ATM machines before you reach immigration.

My airline I was flying with which was China Airlines asked me for proof of onward flight ticket before I could check into my flight to BKK.

Bring cash anyway 2 main languages spoken here thai and cash ✔️ most Bigger shopping malls accept credit card or Visa Master card but for general everyday spending in bars and market place shopping cash is number 1 chohk di

It's totally random. Likely won't get asked for anything if you haven't travelled into Thailand that often

Glad to hear but not surprised.

On arrival immigration officers can ask you three things. Proof of finances (20,000 baht or equivalent in cash), proof of accommodation and proof of a ticket out within your allowed number of days (regardless that you could get an extension).

Will they? For 99.9% of people no they won’t. They only generally ever use those as reasons to deny you entry if they think you’re trying to buck the tourist visa or exempt entries and are possibly trying to work here.

Your average tourist with no history of multiple back to back entries would never be asked.

Understand that immigration stereotypes, and profiles. If you fall into their red flag details they will give you special attention, that can include proof of funds.

If you haven't got a "suspicious" history of visa exempt entries or covid extensions, it's unlikely you'll be asked to show the dosh. As Brandon says, they normally only bring it into play if they're actively looking for something to deny entry.

They can ask you to show proof of 20,000₿ or the equivalent in another major currency.

Realistically they will only ask if they want a reason to deny entry.
