Hello! We will be arriving in 2 weeks on 60 day Tourist visa. I recall reading something about showing the equivalent of 10,000 baht in cash on arrival and also a bank statement showing you have sufficient funds for your stay. Is this information correct? Thank you!

TLDR : Answer Summary
When arriving in Thailand on a 60-day tourist visa, travelers are often concerned about cash requirements. While official regulations state that travelers should possess 10,000 baht per person or 20,000 baht per family, experiences shared by users indicate that these rules are rarely enforced. Many visitors have reported never being asked for proof of funds, particularly if they appear to be arriving with the means to support themselves. It's advisable to be prepared with cash, however, as immigration officers do have the authority to ask for it, especially if they deem it necessary based on a visitor's profile or documentation. Carrying cash (around 20,000 baht) is recommended, and maintaining a polite demeanor during immigration proceedings can contribute positively to one's experience.

Just ask for the nearest ATM so you can withdraw the cash should you need to show the cash.

There are no ATMs airside before Immigration at BKK so no chance of that

We just flew in two days ago with TR visas (from Wellington, NZ Embassy) and were asked one question, "How long are you planning on staying?" Given we'd supplied LOTS of info to get the TR visa, (bank statement, rental agreement, et al) I'd have been surprised if they'd wanted all that again.

Never been asked in 20 years

That’s no guarantee, that others not will be asked.

thanks for your wise words 👏

Take a look on the visa pages at your nearest Thai Embassy, and you will experience that the formal requirement is:

“Foreigners entering Thailand must possess adequate finances for the duration of stay in Thailand (i.e., cash 10,000 Baht per person and 20,000 Baht per family).”

I have only been asked once and that was crossing the land border with Malaysia. That being said 10,000 baht, is a small amount for emergency funds.

Not the bank statement, but you are required to have 20,000 baht or equivalent in your pocket. It is seldom asked, but if they DO ask, don't be THAT person.

I have been asked 3 times since 2016.

The bankstatements and such are for multi entry (I believe 90 days?) visas. I ended up deciding to get 2 seperate single entry visas.

Aside from your question be sure that you get stamped in for 60 days by giving the passport opener at your visa page, we recently came through immigration and got stamped in only for 30, both of us.

I’ve never been asked and last time even arrived on a one way ticket. No issues for me.

Their regulation calls for 20k THB in cash, but they seldom enforce it. Wear shoes, pants, shower, look like you are coming here to spend money, and you will be ok. They use the above regulation to keep out people they don't like.

The fact that you’ve already paid out for the new extortionate flight costs, usually tells them you have money to support yourself 🤷‍♀️🤣

@Sue *********
very true, was paying upto around £3000 for premium economy flights, as of today same airline wants over £4700 for same dates as 2023... !!

@Julie **********
yes flown with them a few times. But wasn’t impressed with standard economy this year. Was a totally full flight 😬. So Splashing out a bit with premium. So 🤞 🤷‍♀️🤣. Always flew with Thai air prior to 2020, with great experience. But times and prices have changed so much since then! 😢

@Sue *********
we've flown EVA many years, always did economy, but last year made the leap to premium, so much better and you'll not want to do economy again!!!

On premium we've never paid more than £3200 with seat selection included, that price has been for May, Sept and even December..

Like I said previously we've already paid for May/June and it includes multi flights, we've paid £3500 for those, but December they want over £4700, for lhr - usm, I just can't justify that cost. I'll see what they do in a few of months, may have to think of somewhere else if they come out the same cost.. which will be heartbreaking..
Sue **********
How many people Is that £4700 for? Ours was £3600 for 2 of us. Coming up the same on the app just now
Sue **********
@Julie **********
we are flying next month with EVA premium economy London to bkk, bkk to samui return for 1800 each.

@Sue *********
that's who we book through, we're already booked for May/June with them, lhr to usm.. Always find them really good and food good too...

Was looking for Decmeber but I won't pay over £1700 more than we paid for December just gone. I'll wait a few more months and see what happens with costs,..

Yes they can request to see 20,000baht in cash prior to your entry bank statements are not accepted but only been asked once in 25 years of visiting twice every year but it's thailand and no surprises if someone is asked to show it we must remember entry to the kingdom is not a guarantee it's all down to the IO infront of you at time of entry Chokh di

Also from UK, in and out for last 20 years (including COVID) never ever been asked. But always have 20,000 just in case.

Got stopped last year....what's in that bag?.... cheese I replied... Very good he responded with a smile.

They are not out to get you, quite the opposite. They just ask for respect and politeness when entering the kingdom and speaking to officials. Normal.

I think we will bring some cash anyway to be prepared.
Julie ***********
I'm from the UK and visit at least 3 times a year, have never been asked to show proof of funds, we go on normal 30 day entry..
Marianne ********
I thought these were only requirements for a visa exemption?

If you applied for, and got, your tourist visa, you have already shown these things?
Debbie ***********

@Marianne *******
we do have our Visas and it does say we have to show a current bank statement when we arrive but nothing about physical cash.
David ********
@Debbie **********
show your passeport and the document received (tourist visa) at the control. They will put stamp with the end date of your document. No other document to show
Graham ******
@Debbie **********
You got your Visa from an Embassy/Consulate and turn up a d face Immigration. Two completely different departments of government that often mis-communicate the requirements of the other.

immigration stereotypes, and profiles. If you fit their list then they can ask.
Graeme **********
I have various friends visit throughout the year and none of them have ever been asked about sufficient funds or a bank statement. Then again, these are visitors from Australia. Maybe this requirement only applies to selected countries.
Tony *********
It's 20,000 baht or equivalent in cash . Return airfare and hotel booked . They won't accept bank statements either
จอนห์ *******
@Tony ********
hotel booked 🤔 What if someone will be visiting their girlfriend, or family member and staying at their place ?
Graham ******
@จอนห์ ******
A simple invitation letter detailing you and the address you will be staying plus contact details.
Jo **********
yes but they never ask.
Rene ******
@Jo *********
they do if they are in doubt

yup 👍

yes indeed 😄and that’s why answering the questions posted on this is basically ’that depends’. The onward flight question is usually asked by airline staff at check-in, although I noticed recently that it was not asked of me when traveling Thai airways from Istanbul and then again from Tokyo. But it’s always asked in Phnom Penh.
