Can my spouse apply for a DTV visa using my financial proof in Thailand?

Hello! I have a question regarding the DTV. My wife and I are moving to Chiang Mai, and we’re curious about the proof of financials. If one of us applies, can the other come in on their visa? Or would we have to each apply for one?

Also, if we do have to each apply, do each of us show proof of the THB 500,000 in two different accounts? Or would one account with THB 500,000 be sufficient?

Thanks in advance! We’ve never left our home country before so this whole process is brand new to us, and we appreciate any and all advice 🫶

TLDR : Answer Summary
The inquiry revolves around the DTV visa application process for a couple moving to Chiang Mai, focusing on whether both spouses need to apply separately or if one can use the other's financial proof. Preliminary responses suggest that, depending on the consulate, it may be possible for one spouse to utilize a joint account to satisfy the financial requirements for the other spouse's application.

Depends on the consulate where you apply. If you are in Vietnam, and you apply at the Ho Chi Minh city consulate you can apply for the primary applicants DTV with 500k in a joint account, then after it is approved apply for the spouse DTV using the same financials. At least that is how it worked a few weeks ago when I went through the process. I got my DTV via remote worker/business owner category.

thank you! We are still in the US right now (forgot to mention that, my apologies) and are flying with two cats. I’m curious if it’d be possible to touch down in Vietnam, apply there, then travel into Thailand? Or if it would be better to get everything done before leaving the states

Do a search on the consult requirements and rules. Each seems to do their own thing so best to check what has worked at the location that you will be applying. Are you going with Washington DC or LA?

they can't pick and choose, the specific consulate will be determined by their location in the states.

I understand that. I posed the question so that the author could understand which one to research.

FYI, there are actually two other consulates in the US, other than LA and DC. New York oversees the northeast and Chicago, the middle of the country.

we did already look up the requirements to fly in the cats, which thankfully seems like a relatively simple process 😅 I was more concerned with making the trip as smooth as possible to reduce stress. But I do think doing everything in the US before flying out seems like the best option after these couple comments, thank you!

if you were to go to Vietnam you would need to look at the rules for cats flying into Vietnam and then for them coming from Vietnam to Thailand so just flying straight to Thailand would seem more sensible to me

yeah I agree with you there. As I was sitting here thinking more, it does make more sense to do a straight flight into Thailand rather than stopping in Vietnam.
