Advice wanted, I will arrive in Thailand on a DTV in December and will be staying at a friends house for a few months, do I register this at the local immigration and would I need something from the owner to confirm I’m staying there. I will be staying free so I don’t have a rental contract or anything.

Also I need to leave the country in February and then March for work a few weeks at a time. Do I need to register each time I return or just inform them when I’m leaving for the rest of the year in april

thanks in advance for the help

TLDR : Answer Summary
Upon arriving in Thailand on a DTV visa and staying at a friend's house, you must register your address with local immigration within 24 hours. Your friend is required to file the TM30 form to report your residence. If you plan to leave and re-enter Thailand multiple times within the visa year, you should inform immigration each time you return, as new registrations are necessary. Obtaining a letter from immigration confirming your stay may also facilitate tasks like opening a bank account or getting a driving license.

Not having a rental contract may be a problem Why not pay 1000 baht a month?

You don't exactly need to file paperwork if you have not intention of staying more than 90 days.

If you enter in Dec. and leave during Feb. you will not need to use Immigration services so there is no downside to not filing a TM30

but if I register and get a letter from them I’m hoping this might help to obtain a bank account and driving license, I’m a regular visitor to Thailand but now looking long term and new to this sort of legislation

ok so you will use Immigration to get Certificates of Residence for the bank and for the DLT. Register to do the TM30 online, easy to register, set up the address then add the foreigner(s) staying, a 3 step process.

Can do tm30 yourself on immigration with contract? Or only owner can do it? Thansk

@Milan *******
you can do it yourself. Either online, which is a bit more of a pain in the ass as you’ll need all the information and permission from the owner/landlord. Or, you can go to your location immigration office and do it there. You’ll need the information from the owner/landlord. Copy of ID card, copy of house book and copy of contract.

You need to register your address within 24 hrs of arrival in Thailand. Every exit from Thailand will require a new registration of address within 24 hrs of arrival.
