TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is seeking clarification on whether they need to visit the Thai consulate to obtain a new visa before returning to Thailand from Laos after a week. They specify wanting just a 30-day visa and are confused due to communication with an individual who suggested the consulate visit. Other users reassure that generally, crossing back into Thailand should not pose an issue, especially if it is the user's first border run. They mention that filling out an arrival card and ensuring one has a pen handy are necessary steps, while experiences shared indicate no additional costs for re-entry if proper procedures are followed.
I crossed over got stamped out of Thailand stamped in Laos stayed 3 days same coming back never went to no immigration to register I think you might be meaning crossing over then returning same day then you go immigration
I just got into Laos today and was charged 1800 baht for a visa and photo, ive heard i might have to pay another 1000 baht if i want to reenter Thailand, can you confirm?
You got a card to fill in, probably the sam cards that you used to get on flights. No landing cards so one has to register at immigration. That has been on the books for years but it seems most people just forgot about it?
embassy can refuse visa also. Coming by air, going for the visa could be the safer approach, but at land borders you don't lose much being denied entry.
no this is my first time on the border run. I only did this to get an extra 30 days as I leave Thailand again on the 5th of March and if I went and got an extension, it would not be long enough as I would’ve been in Thailand for 65 days so that’s why I went to Lou to get the extra 30 days back England
Then there was probably no reason for the comment. However entry is at the discretion of the immigration officer so no one can state with any certainty what they would say.
So in his case he did indeed need to go to the Embassy because that is how you get a new Visa. If you don't require a Visa and qualify for Visa Exempt you just return from Laos and get stamped back in for 30 days.
