Is it true that we only need to do TM30 if we change our address? We don't need to go to immigration if we have been abroad? Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, you need to file the TM30 form upon your return to Thailand, regardless of whether you have changed your address. This applies even if you've been abroad. It's advisable to consult your local Thai Immigration office for confirmation.
When you come back you have a new arrival card (TM6) number. That number is asked/filled in on y'r TM30 form. So you need to do the TM30 again. Seems rather logical to me.
