TLDR : Answer Summary
When visiting Thailand on a 28-day visa, it is legally required to file a TM30 form within 24 hours of arrival if you're staying at a residence other than your own. However, some users mention that if you do not plan on visiting immigration or getting caught in a police stop, you might choose to forgo filing it, although that comes with the risk of fines. It is advisable to comply with the TM30 reporting to avoid any issues.

what we know about a TM30 is in this post,

You read it and you decide IF you want to comply with the rule or not.

@Brian ******
i have travelled to Thailand to visit my girlfriend on many occasions over the last three years always on a 28 day visa (actually i think it's a 30 day visa) i have nev had any problems, although if we stay in a hotel anywhere then they do a TM30 when they take my passport, i know it's not what you are supposed to do but the general consensus is that if you don't need to go to immigration for anything then you should be ok, just be prepared to pay a fine if you get caught ( this could be in a police traffic stop or similar). I'm applying for my non immigrant OA visa in march next year and im visiting Thailand this October. Up to you really, yes you are supposed to do it, but for a 28 day visa you should be ok.

Ok, let's back up:

1. Do you live in Thailand now?

2. If you are visiting Thailand, are you going to travel around in hotels, or stay at your in-laws only?

3. Are you planning on doing anything else in immigration?

I'm going to lean towards a "no need to file a TM30".

1. You won't be doing any activities at the immigration.

2. I haven't heard of any raids occurring where they check for foreigners to see if a TM30 has been filed.

To my knowledge, you can only do it at the local immigration office where the residence is.

I've just joined group today ...and not been for three years ...being honest I have not got a clue what I must do or where and how much it cost ...

Legally, yes. She needs to do it 24 hours after staying in a location. If there's a need for it, it all depends if you'll be going to immigration or not, and if you're willing to risk the fine.

You'll do it at the immigration office. Don't forget to do it when you return back to your main residence (if you live in Thailand)
