I went to the DLT in Bang Chak a few days ago to convert my home license to a Thai driving license. I got a queue and was sent back home. Before leaving I asked the officer if I have to do the test anytime at home and return with the printed result on 1 July at 08:00 and he just nodded. đ§
When I try to do my convert test on the DLT website it just says âComing soonâ.
So my question is: do I need to do the test on 1 July at 08:00 online at home then go back to the DLT office on a later date whenever I want? Or do I have to go there in person on the given date and do the test there?
Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is confused about the procedure for converting a home driving license to a Thai driving license. They were advised to return to the DLT office on July 1, but the online test was not accessible. Users in the comments clarified that the driving test involves watching an online video, taking a few observation questions, and completing physical tests (color blindness, depth perception, and reaction tests) at the DLT appointment. A confirmation QR code must be printed and brought along for the appointment. This suggests that the user can do the online test prior to visiting the DLT office, but may need to confirm with the officials regarding their specific requirements.
Do you need all your documents with you in order to make a booking?

Seriously whoâs ever been stopped to produce a uk driving licence, they will rarely stop you unless your tax is out of date or your vehicle is a jalopy on its last legs. I have never bothered to get a Thai licenceđ¤ˇđžââď¸
no license no insurance they look for any excuse here to reject claims - thatâs how the cops caught on to the motorbike license issue, most renters who come here dont have a motorcycle license , only a car license that allows them to ride a moped up to 50cc , after numerous claims on travel insurance for unlicensed motorcyclists , cops caught on and started asking for IDPâs showing motorbike license, easy money for them its earned them millions over the yearsâŚâŚand cost many young people expensive hospital visits and in some cases their lives.
It's not the police that are the problem, it's the insurance company if you have an accident, they might assess you as driving without a valid licence and refuse to pay out.
That is why you see so many Go Fundme appeals for tourists who can't pay their hospital bills after a vine accident.
Yes, if it is not accompanied by an IDP, and even then it is only valid for 90 days.
Before getting my Thai licence I drove for many years on my UK licence + IDP. The police would quite happily accept it without question and no fines. Fortunately I did not have an accident as it is unlikely the insurance company would have accepted them.
you just like paying an up charge amount of 400%-800% or more for something you can do all by yourself
Amazing
A D/L cost ฿205
Dr note ฿300-฿800

Saw this in a Google map review on DLT. Might be useful information.

Also when you have watched the test and passed it they will send you a QR code. Make sure you print it out and take it along with your other paperwork when you go to the DLT dept.
The majority of tourists donât stay that long for holidays to have to change their foreign licence to a Thai one đ I donât call someboday staying more than 90 days in Thailand a tourist

'all foreign nationals will need to complete a written test, regardless of what licence they hold from abroad.' 'Temporary driverâs licences: International driving permits will no longer be accepted as valid evidence to obtain a temporary licence.' 'Foreign licence holders: Foreign nationals applying for a temporary Thai licence using their existing foreign driverâs licence (for the same vehicle type) must now sit a written exam. Previously, they were exempt from both written and practical tests.' I ask why is Thailand discouraging visitors?

Thailand has thousands of ex-pats; long-term snowbirds who winter here. Each one has family/friends who visit. (I've averaged 3 per year over the last 22 years.) Every hurdle that racist Thailand puts in their way, drives potential tourists to a less-complicated country like Vietnam. I have had numerous holidays in Chang Mai & Pai where each couple hired motor bikes to see the sites. These trips are now off the menu. The galling thing about this short-sighted plan is that the foreigners are among the few decent drivers on Thai roads where the vast majority of locals don't bother with licences; helmets; insurance; fines.
Again: Tourists coming for holidays to Thailand even if they stay up to 90 days still can use their foreign DL together with the international DL, no need to cange into Thai DL. Even if they enter Thailand a second or third time per year, the 90 days validity of the international DL in TH always starts to count new. For tourists Thailand is less complicated in all means. Obviously you seem to mix up tourists with expats. đ
the 90 day validity period of the IDP is an urban myth. The IDP is valid until itâs expiry date.

Yes, you have to watch the videos before you go to your appointment. At the end you'll get a confirmation, that screenshot you need to show when you go back to the DLT.
I just tried the e-learning page... works fine for me...

The training video online has been available for a couple of years, so its probably just a temporary glitch with the site. You view the video and answer some observation questions to prove you watched it (during & at end) anytime prior to the visit to dlt. When you completed the viewing you save and print the qr code to take with you.
Itâs not called a âPole lineup testâ. I know they use a pole (more like a small stick actually) but the test is called a depth perception test. Itâs important to name things correctly. You failed to name any of them correctly. For example, anyone new here might think the âside eye testâ is to test an eye on the side of their head. If you call it correctly (a peripheral vision test) then they would know what is required. If youâre going to give advice, please make sure itâs correct. Thanks.
But thatâs just it. Iâm not arguing. I merely pointed out your errors and you started to get aggressive and defensive. If you posted things accurately in the first place I wouldâve liked your comment. Jeez đ Over and out.

I did mine thru an agent in Rayong. Easy process. Only vision/reaction time tested. 4k. Done

Your words not mine.
I was simply relating my experience. People feel a need to comment
You missed the point. He wasn't remotely interested if you or I used an agent or didn't. You make it sound like it's the cure all and end all, and it's certainly not. Now he has two perspectives to a question he didn't ask in the first place.

I was told by an agent, conversion of my Japan DL to Thai is 4,400THB, only eye test. It does require my DL to be translated to English, my yellow book, my O visa, my International DL. Their staff would take me through, eye and reflex test. They said 2 hours from zero to end. I'll go through that 2nd week of July 2025. while in BKK.
ID card you can use that Thai govt id issued number for your DLâŚit saves you the hassle of changing the id number if your country changes your passport number
Stuff agents wonât tell you for the price they get you to pay
thats not accurate. I just did the process myself in Krabi. And I can tell you it was not easy and the DLT did work when I did the online driver training in February that makes you go through all of the videos and questions to answer throughout the videos which takes 4 hours. Price wise .... 500 bht for a resident certificate, 150 bht for the Medical Certificate, photo copies of a few items (passport, home drivers license, international drivers license, completed DLT course) and doubles of those, 100. And the fee at the appointment for the photo etc which is the 205 bht you're referring too. That entire process took me almost a month waiting for my appointment. So I can tell you if you can afford the 4000 bht ($166 Canadian) for roughly 12 hours of fkn around plus the driving around to get everything done it is worth every penny!
