Do I need to book an appointment for license conversion at the Thai Department of Transportation?

Good morning to all Thai residents and non-residents.

I finally have my residence in Thailand complete with a certificate from my embassy.

I want to do a license conversion and was wondering if anyone has been to the dept of transportation *recently* and whether I need to book appointment in advance or just go and stand in line. Free appointments slots in Bangkok are available only by early June…

Thank you

TLDR : Answer Summary
A resident in Thailand is seeking advice on whether to book an appointment in advance for license conversion at the Department of Transportation or just visit the office directly. A commenter shares their experience of visiting the Department in Chiang Mai, where they were able to get an appointment a week later instead of waiting for an online slot that was over a month away.

It might not be helpful but this was my experience in ChiangMai. I went in with all the paperwork and they inspected it and make sure everything was complete. Then they stapled it all together and gave me an appointment paper and told me to return on the day they provided. The appointment they gave was only a week away whereas the appointment available online was over a month away.
