Do I need to cancel my ED visa before returning to the USA for a month?

I'm Finishing my MBA at Thammasat. Grades will be released About Feb 15th or Shortly after. My visa ends march 1. I asked for the letter to cancel my visa. I plan to fly back to the USA for 1 month minimum. And return at some point later on. I will also apply for a METV visa in the USA. 

I don't know exactly what day I will fly back to USA yet. But I asked for a letter to cancel my ED visa for my MBA which expires on march 1 and this was the response.

I must have my ED visa canceled correct?

Bottom Line...your university is WRONG.

You do need the letter from the university to take to the Thai Immigration office which has issued your Ed Visa extension stamps and request it be canceled.

The university has asked for your flight ✈️ departure date. They will use it as your last date of your study.

Good Luck with your plan for the METV multiple entry tourist visa. It's ideal for you and your return later to Thailand.

One question. Does the cancel visa and fly out date need to be the exact day I fly out? Like can I have letter to cancel visa on #20 but fly out on #18?
