Hi, i have an ED Visa ending on September 6th. I fly out of the country on the 5th. I had to get a new passport and just got my new book back. Do I need to have the ED Visa transferred to my new passport before I leave. Or can i just leave it as is with out transferring it? I plan to go to Malaysia and apply for a METV to return to Thailand. USA passport.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user has an ED Visa expiring on September 6th, and with plans to fly out the day before, they inquire if they need to transfer their ED Visa to a new passport. The response clarifies that transferring the visa is advisable, and suggests obtaining a letter from the school for visa cancellation before departure. Furthermore, it emphasizes the necessity of applying for the METV visa only in the USA and warns of potential difficulties at Thai Immigration without proper documentation.

I debated whether or not to allow this post...

1. You cannot get the METV multiple entry tourist visa in any country... MUST obtain it in your home country, which is the USA.

And you MUST show the PROOF of your flight to Thailand from the USA.

2. A new passport, while it may have been needed, does not change the fact that Thai Immigration Officers, upon your arrival into Thailand with your new passport, will see your entire Thai Immigration history. The Thai Immigration computers match your new passport with any passport you have had in the past. That as well as facial recognition software and your fingerprints will identify you.

3. Before you leave Thailand, be sure to get a letter from the School where you are attending classes and passing tests, stating that you have ended your course of study as of a date.... take that letter to the Thai Immigration office which ISSUED your Ed Visa for the cancellation of the Ed Visa before you leave Thailand.

4. Having a New Thai Visa is not a guarantee that Thai Immigration Officers will allow you to enter Thailand. It's their discretion.

And be prepared for questions from Thai Immigration Officers upon arrival about your Ed Visa and the course of study you have taken.

Thai Immigration Officers are watching for the arrivals of those who have an Ed Visa in their passport or recent history of the Ed Visa.

And I Suggest you ask an experienced Visa run service company if they would take you to get a NEW Thai visa... tell them your passport nation and recent history of staying in Thailand. They will have a good idea if it's possible to get a NEW Thai Visa.

If it's not likely to be able to get a NEW Thai visa.... suggest you ask the experienced border run service company IF they would take you to do a BORDER BOUNCE? You may get a Max of 2 LAND BORDER BOUNCE entries into Thailand EACH CALENDAR YEAR. Plus Each One can get a 30 day extension of stay at your local Thai immigration office for 1900 Thai baht.

Regardless of what you choose to do... DON'T FLY BACK into Thailand. As you may be questioned by Thai Immigration Officers upon arrival and DENIED entry.

Those who have an Ed Visa or Volunteer Visa in their recent history and seek reentry into Thailand are being questioned.

ENTER THAILAND by LAND BORDER CROSSING... and with an experienced border run service company.

Please be careful with your choices.

And as you may be age 50+, get the correct visa for RETIREMENT in Thailand. Enjoy Thailand.

Good Luck ๐Ÿ€
