Do I need to cancel my Non-B extension before leaving Thailand, or will it expire automatically?

I need some information. I have a Non-B 1-year extension that will expire in late February of this year. I don't plan to apply for a new extension as I'm planning to apply for a different kind of visa from outside of Thailand. In this case, can I just leave Thailand and will the visa expire automatically after the expiry date, or do I need to go to immigration to cancel it?

TLDR : Answer Summary
If you have a Non-B 1-year extension expiring soon and plan to apply for a different visa from outside Thailand, simply leaving the country will not officially cancel the extension. It's advised to visit immigration and formally cancel the extension to avoid complications in the future, especially if you plan to work or apply for a long-term visa again. Additionally, ensure that any associated work permit is also canceled.

Just stamping out of the country does not cancel an extension officially nor does letting it expire while you're out of the country.

What that means is

If you were ever going to work again inside Thailand or try to get a long-term extension you should go to the immigration office with your termination paperwork and cancel the current extension you're on so that you don't have an "open" extension in your passport.
