TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about the need for a visa for a stay of 96 days in Thailand, with various community members providing advice. The consensus is that a 96-day stay poses challenges as the typical maximum stay on a tourist visa without extension is 90 days. Suggestions include entering on a 60-day visa exempt stamp with potential re-entry for another 60 days or sticking to a 90-day plan to avoid complications.

90 days might be less trouble for you...89 days to be safe

Keep at 89 days maximum. Do not count 90 days the way most people do. The way of counting is each day you're in Thailand is counted, NOT the number of nights you spend.

For example : if you get stamped in an hour before midnight, then THAT day is already counted, even if there is only 1 hour left. Same with stamping out an hour after midnight. It's a mistake many people make.

It might be a good idea...if it's not too costly...otherwise you would just have to go visit a neighboring country for a short time and come back in on a new stamp...it's not a big deal but can be a hassle and 90 days is good anyways

There's probably not a visa that you can get that will give you 96 days in Thailand. Tourists can get 90 days, and that's only with an extension.

Even most non-immigrant visas only give 90 days and then need to be extended.

You can arrive as a tourist and get a 60-day visa exempt stamp, and then leave Thailand and return to get another 60-day stamp. Best if you don't get the extension for many reasons.

I thought they reduced the 60 day upon arrival to 30 days?!

Also, if I was to leave the country, how long should I wait until I can return?

Thank you!

visa exempt is still 60 days. If you want to be safest, get a tourist visa before you go the first time. Then for the second entry use visa exempt. Probably need to be gone a couple of days depending on the border you use, but if you fly out and back then no need to stay out.
