Hi! I am coming to Thailand in 2 days time and am staying for 80 days. I am a New Zealand citizen and just wanting to know if I need a certain visa for this or am I okay?

I have also heard I could go to the embassy every 30 days and then renew it, is this true?

Thanks in advance 😇

TLDR : Answer Summary
As a New Zealand citizen arriving in Thailand, you can enter visa-free for 30 days. It is possible to extend your stay for an additional 30 days at a local immigration office, but you will not be able to obtain a total of 80 days within Thailand without further travel. You should also have proof of onward travel when boarding your flight to Thailand, as airlines may not permit boarding without it. Given the short time before travel, applying for another visa is not feasible.

You can enter visa free for 30 days, however you need proof of onward travel within the 30 day period. You had better buy a flight to another visa exempt country nearby like Malaysia RIGHT NOW. You may not be allowed to board your flight to Thailand without it.

You don't need a visa (I don't think for NZ) to fly to Malaysia. Go for a couple days, re-enter, then extend before the new 30 days expire. (Or go there for a week and apply for a Thailand long term visa.) You cannot get a visa to cover your stay now... too close to your flight. And you can't get it in Thailand.

Buy a throw away ticket for $15 for onward travel. You’re going to have to do a border run. On day 29 extend 30 days and then on day 59, go to a border. Kind of daft you left it until 2 days before travel… could’ve saved yourself the effort. But no point on dwelling on it now lol. Just get the onward travel ticket to save yourself hassle at your home airport. I have been allowed on a flight with a later return, lots of times tbh. Flutter your eye lashes and say you’re traveling around se Asia and may get away with it. But easier to spend the $15

Forget it. You've missed the boat, but you can do a border bounce to get the 80 days

That's only if they're allowed to board their flight 😂

I was allowed to board my flight with visa on arrival and I stayed two months

Interesting considering Americans can't get Visa On Arrival!

all I had was a passport so yeah on arrival

Yeah but you didn't get a VOA. You got a 30-day entry stamp, not a visa

Yeab I misunderstood

Lucky you. It certainly isnt the norm, the vast majority of airlines want to see return/onward travel within the validity of your stay, especially long haul flights.

You’re coming in 2 days. Yet you’re enquiring whether you might need a visa now? FFS. Fortunately a NZ citizen can get a visa exempt entry on arrival and have 30 days stay. They may also extend that once at a local immigration office for a further 30 days. You won’t get 80 days. You’ll be incredibly lucky if your airline lets you get on the plane without a ticket out of Thailand within the 30 days. Possibly should have researched this a bit earlier.

Bit late in the day enquiring about this. Best of luck.

If you come without a visa you will be stamped in for 30 days and can extend your stay for an additional 30 days by visiting your local immigration office.

You can only get this extension one time. That means without a visa you can get 60 days inside of Thailand.

Why are you just looking into this 2 days before you travel? You do not have time to apply for a visa at this point.

Also there are no Thai embassies inside of Thailand. Embassies are in foreign countries. The only embassies inside Thailand are those of other countries. All immigration stuff inside of Thailand is done at immigration offices.

You may also have problems boarding your flight as your airline may not let you board unless you can show them proof of leaving Thailand within 30 days, since that's what you will receive when you arrive in Thailand.
