Do I need a TM30 when returning to Thailand on a retirement visa and what about my visitor from the USA?

I have the one year retirement visa. Am spending 6 weeks back in USA right now. I paid for multiple re-entries. When I return to Thailand, I know I need to get the TDAC. Do I need a TM 30?

Also if a friend or relative from USA visits me just for two weeks, do they need a TM 30?

TLDR : Answer Summary
If you have a one-year retirement visa and are coming back to Thailand after six weeks in the USA, whether you need to submit a TM30 (report of residence) can depend on the policies of your local immigration office. Some offices require a new TM30 upon re-entry, while others may not, especially if you're returning to the same address. Regarding your friend or relative visiting from the USA for two weeks, they technically need a TM30, but in practice, it's generally not enforced unless the visitor needs to engage with immigration services.

As long as your friends don’t need anything from immigration (extension)then they really don’t need a TM30

A TM30 report is good for your entire extension of stay duration. You do not need to report again as long as you have a current report for that address. New address equals new report.

retirement extension with multi-entry. The IO I talked to told me to make sure to do my TM-30 after each entry or I would be fined next time

regardless of what the IO told you a TM30 is valid for your entire “permission to stay” stamp. Not me making up rules but actual Thai law.

interesting and good to know - thanks 🙏

although last year I had my 90 day report rejected because I did not do another TM-30 after reentering Thailand again. No change of address

what visa were you on?

Given you say you have paid for a multiple re-entry permit I doubt very much you are on any visa. It's much more likely you are on an extension of stay based on retirement

@John *********
maybe just semantics but isn’t the extension of stay actually extending the original 90 day visa for another 12 months?

@Sean *********
no not really. You do need to have a non-immigrant visa to apply for an extension of stay based on retirement but the 2 are distinct. For example you could have been working in Thailand for years on a Non-B based extension of stay and when you stop working you can can change the reason for your extension of stay to retirement without you getting a Non-O visa based on being over 50

correct. One year extension based on retirement.

That depends on your immigration office. Most want a new TM30 when returning to Thailand, but some are fine without it if returning to the same address.

And legally your friend needs a TM30, but realistically unless they'll be going to immigration for something while they're staying with you, it's not necessary.

good point. I actually am coming back to a different province so I should get the TM 30 this time.
