TLDR : Answer Summary
A Canadian traveler planning to visit Thailand for three weeks in June can enter without a visa due to the 30-day visa exempt entry. For their return after visiting Vietnam, they can either buy a single entry tourist visa allowing a 60-day stay or consider a multiple entry visa (METV). It's important to confirm that the airline permits boarding without a return ticket, as this can affect travel plans.
If he has an onward ticket to Vietnam boarding in Canada won't be a problem. The airline only refuse boarding if there is a possibility Thai IO will refuse entry. An onward ticket to SE Asia in fine , it doesn't have to be to country of origin
if you're only comin' here for 3 weeks you don't need any visa because you'd get in on a 30 day visa exempt entry.
When you're in Vietnam you could by a single entry tourist visa from the thai consulate in Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi and that would stamp you in for 60 day.
