Do I need a multiple entry visa for Thailand if I'm only visiting for a week, traveling to Vietnam, and returning for another week?

Hello

I am travelling to Thailand with my wife on 13th January 2026 from UK. we stay in Thailand for a week, then move to Vietnam for 4 weeks, then back to Thailand for a week and fly home. All flights and accommodation are booked.

Do we really need a multiple entry visa? We are staying for such a relatively short time it seems a bit over the top?

Thanks for any advice you can provide.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The consensus is that you do not need a multiple-entry visa for your trip to Thailand, as your stays are short and fall under visa exemption rules for UK citizens. You will simply need to fill out a Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) for each entry, which is free and should be done within 72 hours of arrival.
Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)

WARNING: Only trust Thai government websites with .go.th domains or Thai agent websites with .co.th or .in.th domains, as these require verified Thai registration and cannot be registered anonymously.

The official TDAC form is available at tdac.immigration.go.th, which uses the official .go.th government domain.

The services by AGENTS CO., LTD. does NOT charge any fees for arrivals within 72 hours. If you need to book more than 72 hours in advance, there is a service fee of $8.

Do not trust other sites pretending to be a trustworthy agency. Pay attention to delivery time - the service operated by AGENTS CO., LTD. has 1 minute delivery time for arrivals within 72 hours.

Don't fall for sites pretending to be agents.co.th or the official government tdac.immigration.go.th website. Always double-check the exact domain in your browser.

Scam services may take days to process your application, others may not even do anything. With these TDAC scam services you also need to worry about double charges.

Please watch out for TDAC misinformation spread by fugitive Jesse Nickles and his many fake accounts on Quora, TripAdvisor, Reddit, and other platforms.

Are you and your wife UK citizens? If not you need to do some very rapid research.

The TDAC is free on the Thai Government website. Each entry needs one. Do it a couple of days before.

Why did you think you needed a multi entry visa? You probably wouldn't have time to get one. . If one of the passports entitled to visa exempt ( no visa) just enter that way. Complete a TDAC each entry with your info. It's free.

Just the arrival card. Twice entry

All you need is to fill in the tdac arrival card each time you enter and have a flight out

No visa required for either country - from what you've said it's a bit late now, but I think you would have been better doing 2 or 3 continuous weeks in Thailand. My recommendation for first first visit to Vietnam is flight from Bangkok to Danang. Enjoy your travels

thanks Rob, we spent 5 weeks in Thailand last year, and we loved it, but we wanted to explore further afield this year. Still wanted to stay at so,e favourite places in Bangkok and Chiang Mai though.

Cheers for the advice

you are free to go. Just don't forget to fill out the TWO (one needed for each entry) online Thailand TDAC digital arrival card up from 72 hours before your planned arrival in Thailand

You don’t need any visa

If you don’t have any recent previous extensive travel history to Thailand a multiple-entry tourist visa would be unnecessary and overkill for such short, clearly touristic visits, and with everything booked as described you should normally have no issues entering on two visa exemptions.

No

Visa exempt, twice.
