What are the requirements for reapplying for an Extension Based on Marriage or Retirement in Thailand?

Hi. I have a two-part question I hope you can help me with.

Background:

1. I am a Canadian and married to a Thai and living 6 mos and 6 mos in Canada and Udon Thani in our house as well as travelling around SE Asia. We are planning on living here full-time starting in the Fall of 2023.

1. On Nov. 4, 2021, I entered Thailand on a non-0 Visa and on December 2021, I applied for and got the 1 year Extension Based on Marriage; this extension expires on. Feb. 1, 2023.

1. My wife and I flew to Canada on March 30, 2022 and returned to Udon on October 7, 2022 and duly reported to the Udon IO.

1. The Udon IO advised that I must report in 90 days on Jan. 7, 2023 to maintain my current status or IF I want to reapply for a new Extension Based on Marriage then I can reapply anytime between Dec. 25, 2022 and Jan. 7, 2023.

My Two Questions:

1. If I simply reapply for an Extension Based on Marriage would I just submit the TM7 with appropriate documents or must I include with it the TM30 for my 90 day report?

1. Currently I have 400,000 baht in my bank account. My wife has suggested that she deposit another 400,000 baht in my account so that I could simply apply for the Extension Based on Retirement as there is less paperwork involved and no need to bother our neighbor witnesses. Can I do this and given the above dates what would I need to do and what paperwork would then be required?

Thank you very much for help and assistance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, a Canadian citizen married to a Thai national, seeks guidance on reapplying for a visa extension based on marriage and considers the option of applying for a retirement extension instead. They inquire whether to submit a TM30 with the TM7 for the marriage extension, and if they can supplement their funds for a retirement extension. Responses emphasize the need to gather updated documentation for the application and outline the financial requirements related to the retirement extension.

Less paperwork, easier and less expensive than a Non-O based on marriage. Don't let the 800k balance drop below an amount when applying for the extension & explain to your wife, it'll save you both money. I've still got 2 years to wait, but, am looking forward to the Non O based on retirement. If you're working, Non O based on retirement excludes you from employment.

in either case, you need to get the latest handout for requirements prior to your application for the next 1-year extension.

1. Yes, you apply for a new 1-year extension base on marriage with all required documents. Usually, most offices require you to have a TM30 receipt, and some require you to have 90 days report receipt.

2. You can apply for the next 1-year extension for retirement. Keep in mind, You need to season your funds of 800K 2 months prior to the day of your application and keep 800K for three months after an extension is granted, then keep no less than 400k rest of next year.

here is the general information for a 1-year extension based on retirement.

Ellie. Thank you so much for your speedy and complete reply. I do have two follow-up questions. 1. Attached I have copied a handout I used in Dec. 2021 to put together the application for an Extension based on Marriage. Can you tell me if it is still current? 2. We are planning to go to Laos via Vientiane in mid-November. Based on my current Extension Based on Marriage what must I do to keep everything in order? Again, many thanks.

So go to the Udonthani office to apply for a re-entry permit just before you travel, and get the latest handout for a 1-year extension based on marriage to a Thai & based on retirement in case.

You need to get a re-entry permit BEFORE you leave Thailand for Laos to get back on your current extension. You go to the Udonthani office to apply.

That is the immigration office-specific question. All immigration office do their minor updates on their own schedule. All immigration office update their requirements at the same time only when a new police order is issued. So, you need to check with the Udonthani office to see if it's still current or updated.

This is general info for a 1-year extension based on marriage to a Thai. Some may not be asked in your office, od some additional might be.
