Do I need a 90-day report to obtain a Thai driver's license?

Can somebody clarify - I have only been here for 70 days and cannot file a 90 day report.

In order to get a Thai drivers license am I required to have a 90 day report?

My research shows that I need

1. Residency certificate.

2. Valid IDP and US drivers license

3. Medical Certificate

4. TM 30

I want to get it done ASAP and I was planning on leaving prior to my 90 day report anyway for a weekend Vietnam trip.

TLDR : Answer Summary
To obtain a Thai driver's license, a 90-day report is not required if you have been in Thailand for less than 90 days. Instead, you need a TM30 to show your registered address and a residency certificate, which can be obtained from the immigration office. Various commenters note that requirements can differ by location, and it's advisable to check with local offices. Some individuals recommend using an agent to facilitate the process and save time.

Take advice from my real experience this week.

You can only get a Thai license this week in Chumphon.

All the DLT offices are fully booked for months.

You don’t need 90

Days report.

Downloand the app:

DLTsmart que

I did everything in 24 hours in Chumphon.

Just fly to Chumphon.

They have immigration office also

Avoid Bangkok at all cost

I converted my Thai driving license in Department of Land Transportation (Area 3), Sukhumvit.

I stayed in Thailand less than 90 days, no need to report 90 day report. But, need report TM30 and apply the residency certificate in Immigration Division 1 (Immigration Bureau). The residency certificate must be issued within 1 month when you apply the thai driving license.

It needs time for the foreigner to make the appointment day with transportation department and to prepare the residency certificate.

As people said, PREVIOUSLY in Bangkok at the main office at Chaengwattana you needed to have filed at least one 90 day report in order to get a certificate of residence issued

BUT

That rule was rescinded, and now you only need to have a TM30 filed showing you are registered as staying in Bangkok.

You go out to the main immigration office at the government complex (Building B) on Chaengwattana Road, you go to the 3rd floor and they have a special room now that only does 90 day reporting, TM30's and certificates of residence..

You fill out the form, provide the copy of the TM30, your passport data page, copy of your visa, your entry stamp pay 200baht and they mail the certificate to the address you're registered at on the TM30 in about 5 days <- they give you a receipt with the Thai Post EMS tracking number on it so you can track it too.

That's how it's done in Bangkok, other offices do it differently

Download the DLT Smart Queue app, and register. This will also give you the link to watch the one hour video, with timely questions to make sure you are watching, giving you a qr code to show at DLT at the beginning of the application process. It saves a minimum of an hour. Having the queue number saves lots of time. In Bangkok the main DLT offices across from chatuchak market is dept #5. I made the mistake of thinking it was 1, being it's the main office...lolol. By doing these, and having all the documents, you can be in, and out of there in less than an hour, and a half. I'm not sure if they've started having everyone getting a new Thai license take the written test yet, or not.

If you haven't been here for 90 days,

a 90-day report is not required.

If you have one, it will be used when applying for a residence permit, not when applying for a driver's license.

It depends on the immigration office (for residence certificate), some ask for a 90 days when some don't.

At some immigration offices you need to file a 90-day report before they will give you a certificate of residence, and to file a 90-day report or request a certificate of residence you need to have the TM30 filed.

Previously you needed to have done a 90 day report to get a residence certificate.

But now atleast in Bangkok that’s not the case.

You need a TM30 to get a residence certificate, so all you need at the drivers license office (land and transport) is residence certificate medical certificate and your IDP.

I highly recommend you just pay an agent to get your residency cert and license 👌

But you do need the other certificates you mentioned, can all be done at immigration with your passport & some cash

Or get the agent to do it all

No 90 report for the licence, if you are here 90 days you must report to update location that’s it.

I used an agent for my licence to skip the wait in Phuket as it was like
***
weeks

They took care of everything Including the certificates, I just showed my licence and IDP to them and paid,

Got an appointment a few days later

Did a reaction test in the dmv and then got it issued
