Hello, do DTV holders. Do you need actual $600 cash to enter Thailand with DTV.
Answer summary
DTV visa holders are required to have 20,000 THB or an equivalent amount in cash when entering Thailand, although enforcement of this rule can vary. Many expats share experiences indicating that while it is a legal requirement, they were not asked for cash on multiple entries. However, travelers often recommend carrying the cash as a precaution to avoid potential issues with immigration. Some have reported being asked for proof of funds through bank statements or apps, but the general sentiment is to be prepared just in case.

They stopped me 2 weeks ago while my son xas entering with student bisa and me with dtv. I had to fill a form with how mucj money cash I have znd how much is in my bank accounts and show them some employee/business documents. 6th entry on DTV, this time lost 30min and got a lot of stress.

When they let me go in, I asked if there is any problem with our visas. They said it's ok. So I don't really know why they checked me

Checking does not mean anything is wrong, they check to see IF anything is wrong.

Nothing sinister Alessandro. There have been other verifiable reports where completion of a 'Passenger Statement Form' has been required upon first entry via DTV.

I’ve never been asked for it, but I’d have it on you just in case they ask.

It’s like insurance. It’s optional but that one time you get asked and you don’t have it, they have every right to deny you. What is worse is you likely have to buy a return ticket back home within 24 hours and you get stuck in detention until your 10-20 hours flight back home. So $600 cash insurance that you get to keep entirely or 48 hours ride back home, losing your entire vacation time and money.

chooserich007 It's not insurance. It's a requirement. A pre-DTV requirement. A pre-mobile phone banking app requirement. There is a verifiable report that sight of 20,000 THB or equivalent in an online bank account is acceptable at Friendship Bridge Number 4. Someone has reported on this thread that he also saw it being accepted. I suspect your prophecy is intended to unsettle DTV holders rather than be helpful.

My plan is always have 600 usd cash that I don’t touch.

If I leave to VN or another SEA country I take it just in case.

That way I don’t have to play and lose the currency conversion game.

Will I ever need it? I don’t know, but it’s insurance just in case. One less thing, I have to worry about .

Just an idea for folks maybe it works for you. Maybe it doesn’t…

It's the equivalent to 20,000 baht in any currency. I didn't get asked but someone in the line next to me got asked. She showed her bank app and they let it go. But cash is the requirement. I carried cash and its good to have to pay for a car and food.

Staggering how many people are confusing ‘hasn’t happened in my limited experience’ with ‘isn’t a real risk.’ Those are not the same thing. One is autobiography; the other requires data. You’re offering the first as if it were the second. Fact is, the cash requirement is the law and any immigration officer can deny without it.

Anonymous participant 755 DTV is a tourist visa, but the 20,000 cash requirement applies to everyone, including non-immigrant visas, so it doesn't matter. You are very unlikely to be asked, but they can do. They typically ask if they want to deny you for some other reason. It's not asked out of genuine interest in your finances.

if they want to ask it it has to be cash or travellers checks. If they are actually enforcing this rule, they will not accept bank apps and they won't allow you take the cash out of an ATM either, it is used as a "gotcha" to give them an excuse to deny people they want to deny for some other reason that isn't written in the immigration act.

One could say the same about your response, though his, at least gives personal experiences and testimony, which generally helps people make decisions, considering whether one gets checked or not is not solidly enforced every time for everyone.

I still think you could have shown more respect in your response, as the man's comment wasn't disrespectful toward anyone, and he likely thought his comment was helpful and on topic.

I get this is social media, and being rude sorta comes with the territory (especially in FB groups), but it's not really necessary.

Just my two cents, but I'm not really planning to have a debate here over it, so take it as you will.

LOL. If the only point of this chat thread was to quote the law, nobody would go to Facebook. Yet there are 7 billion users.

Does not matter if it is a fact.

You qualify for the medal "one of the most stupid comments on the internet".

"Never happened to me", is one of the most stupid comments, one can make.

But no worries, you are not alone. Martial arts forums are full with that comment: no one attacks like that. Never happened to me.

Hint: no one cares what happened to you.

The law is: he has to be able to show it.

And if they seek a reason to reject entry: having no money to show is the direct way for it.

@Christer ****
its one of those rules that is rarely enforced so its definitely helpful to get a realistic idea of what is happening most of the time so you can decide whats the best plan.

Speed limit in the US was 65mph. It was rarely enforced unless people exceeded the speed limit by 10+ miles an hour.

Online driving aps often show areas where there are active speed traps for this reason.

Live accounts is much preferable to someone stating the rules and regulations which anyone can find with a simple google search. Thats why chat sites like this exist and are popular

Jes sayin
Christer *****
Christer *****
@Dave ********
Since the rule is that you should have it, it's not helpful.

It's like "You can drive and play with your phone at the same time because I do it all the time and I've never been caught!"

If they ask and you don't have it, then you are going home again.
