Do children on ED visas need re-entry permits when traveling with parents on a NON-O visa in Thailand?

Re-entry permits:

Parents are on a NON-O visa

& the young kids on a ED visa.

People seem surprised I’ll be heading to immigration, later this week, to make re-entry permits for the entire family… As if I am wasting my money for the kids 🙄

Is it me or I am strange wanting to follow the rules?

Or kids really got a “free pass” I am unaware of?

On another note, my 90 days reporting falls on 4/4/2023 however the family is flying out on 1/4/2023, so from my understanding we don’t need to report this time around since we will fly out. It is only at our return into Thailand that we’ll have to head to the immigration to sort out our next 90 reporting date, correct?

TIA for your advice!

Update: Doing it the right way! 🙌 Went to local immigration in Koh Samui to do it, took 2hrs+ for the stamp, bring all paper work and copies because they will ask for it! 🙏

Thank you group!!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the necessity of obtaining re-entry permits for their children who are on ED visas while the parents are on a NON-O visa. Despite some opinions suggesting that children might be exempt from needing these permits, the consensus among commenters is that children do not have a 'free pass' and should also have re-entry permits to maintain legal status. Additionally, the user seeks clarification on 90-day reporting rules given their travel schedule, confirming that they do not need to report as they will be leaving before the reporting date. The user successfully followed the required procedures for re-entry permits at their local immigration office.

I wanted to apologize for getting those dates wrong

Pay no attention to the half-wits who say you don't need re-entry permits for your kids, your kids are here legally on ED visas not just overstaying free without any penalty.

Get the re-entry permits 🙂

I totally understand ☕️ ! Thank you for the clarification and everything! I really appreciate the group it’s so helpful and accurate unlike most answers you may obtain in Thailand. Keep it up! 🙏

You are doing right and legally for your family members. There is no "free pass" for children. The thing is, when children under 15 yo overstay, they are waived an overstay fine. But they are staying inside Thailand illegally and would get overstay stamps when they leave Thailand.

There are certain people who don't care if their children is being illegal in Thailand, rather want to save costs that are required to keep them legal.

thank you Ellie for re-assuring me! Because it is strange when everyone is treating you like you are the weird one… Will get the re-entry for all as I intended to! I hear it’s same day at the immigration?

(I am in Koh Samui, but I am in advance for my trip that’s on the 1st of April anyways)

Thank you!

You guys are the best!

, yes, the re-entry permit application should be same day/on-the-spot process.

Do I read this correctly: your 90 falls on April 4, but you leave on April1…no need to do 90day. If otherway around yes do 90 day.

you ALL have valid visas so just get re-entry permits and keep everyone legal
@Cora ***
EDITED BECAUSE I GOT THE DATES WRONG.. 😮

If you are leaving April 1 but the 90 day report is April 4, you just leave. and as people said your next 90 day report will be due 89 days from the date you stamp back in to thailand.. Sorry I mixed that up, hadn't had my coffee when I posted earlier 😛

due 4-Apr but leaving 1-Apr ;)

@Graham *****
then you don’t have to do 90 reports for April, you need to start counting 90 days for your next report

can I still report? (As I’ll be in the two weeks ahead period, when I go submit my documents for the re-entry permit)

Or it would be “useless” to do so? Since I am heading out on the 1st April? 🙏

@Cora ***
, yes, you can still report. But 90 days report is about reporting that you are staying in Thailand continuously for 90 days as of the due date. If you are sure you are not in Thailand on the 90th day, you don't have to.

You just have the reporting window from 15 days before until 7 days after.
