Do we need to apply for a re-entry permit for a Non-O visa after converting to a 1-year extension in Thailand?

My son entered Thailand on a 90 day Non O dependant visa and we converted it to a 1 year (single entry) visa within the country. Now we are traveling out of Thailand and the company HR has informed us that we don't need to apply for a rentry permit as the first entry is included in the visa.

This seems contrary to what I have read here and would be helpful if someone could clarify it. Also is rentry permit application possible at Don muang Airport? Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking clarification on whether a re-entry permit is necessary for their son, who is traveling outside Thailand after converting a 90-day Non-O dependant visa to a 1-year single-entry visa. The company's HR department indicated that the first entry is included in the visa, suggesting a permit is not needed. However, community comments confirm that a re-entry permit is indeed required, particularly since the extension granted within Thailand is categorized as a zero-entry permit. It is possible to obtain a re-entry permit at Don Muang Airport, although it is recommended to secure it at the local immigration office before traveling to avoid stress.

So that entry was used when he came IN to thailand on that visa ๐Ÿ™

AND

As everyone else pointed out an extension inside the coutnry is sold as NO ENTRY <- meaning there is no re-entry permit given when you get the extension because you're IN thailand already.

You NEED to get a re-entry permit either at the immigration office where the extension was issued OR at the international airport on the day you fly out after you check in for your flight. Either that or he will lose everything he has got and be back to zero ๐Ÿ™

Visas or extensions obtained inside Thailand are zero entry except Elite visas. As stated a re-entry permit is needed to keep the stay alive.

As Ellie replied

Yes. At Don Muang Airport, There is a room/counter for re-entry permits and overstay fine AFTER the passport control, before going through the security screening. Don't forget to tell to the immigration officer at passport control you need a re-entry permit. Fee is same.

He must get a Re-entry permit..

...from your local Thai immigration office.

... ALSO It's possible to get it at Don Mueang Airport... BUT avoid the stress and get it before you go to the airport.

This should be in the passport when you got your 1 year Extension of Stay.

It clearly state you need a re-entry permit
