TLDR : Answer Summary
The consensus from the comments indicates that children do not need to be present when certifying a notarized original birth certificate at a Thai embassy, as it can be done through mail or does not require the physical presence of the child.

We did ours thru the mail with the Thai embassy in the US. Obviously we didn’t mail the kids there. So answer no.

I have not heard that before either, I just had a filipino woman get a Non-O visa and a yearly extension based on supporting her filipino child here and she didn't need the birth certificate notarized by her consulate just translated into thai and certified by the MFA.

@Nicola ******
the schools advised this but what did the immigration office tell you? They usually hav ea hand out if you're tryin' to pull a non-O visa based on supporting foreign children here that lists the requirements.

I wouldn't trust a school about an immigration issue ever

, Please realize I didn't mean any disrespect in my first reply. You didn't post the nationality of the children or what consulate you were going to use so it was a very vague thing.

The US consulate won't notarize birth certificates because they're issued by the states NOT the federal gov't so we have to fill out an blank notary for stating the birth certificate is real and true and they notarize that.
