Hello everyone. Does an U.S. citizen need to notarize his copy of the passport if he wishes to marry a Thai citizen. I got the affirmation of freedom to marry stamped by the embassy, but I did not stamp the copy of the passport because I was told at the embassy that they were not sure if I needed it l. Yesterday, I tried to translate the documents into Thai, and I was told I had to come back to the embassy and get my passport certified.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A U.S. citizen looking to marry a Thai citizen must notarize a copy of their passport. While the affirmation of freedom to marry was stamped by the embassy, it is essential to also have the passport certified. Comments confirm that both documents need to be translated and certified to complete the process.

Yes a certified copy of your passport is required, the Australian embassy supplied one with the 'no impedance to marry' letter

Yes, affirmation and notarisation of passport must be translated and certified. I believe I had both stamped at the embassy, prior to these steps.
