Just a quick query, does the bank statements need to be dated the day you apply for a marriage VISA? seems like a lot of running around. Mine are dated about two weeks ago as its taking so long to collate everything.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquired whether bank statements need to be dated the same day they apply for a marriage visa in Thailand. The discussion revealed that if applying for an extension based on marriage, a bank letter dated within a week is often required, and it is necessary to update the bank book on the day of applying. It was clarified that the marriage visa is essentially an extension of stay on a Non-Immigrant Type O visa based on marriage, and applicants must apply for this visa prior to seeking the extension.

it seems the marriage VISA does not actually exist then, its just merely an extension of stay on the type-0 based on marriage for a further 365 days minus the 90 days in the 1st year (inclusive of 90 reporting) then re-apply the extension based on marriage every year.. phew!

you are correct (y)

Your first step would be to apply for the 90 day Non-O visa at the Chaengwattana Immigration office in section C-1. :) That will cost 2000baht.

okay,

You are here on a 30 day visa exempt entry stamp, you NEED to be on a Non-Immigrant Type O visa to get an extension based on marriage.

SO

you're going to need to apply for a 90 day Non-O visa from section C-1 first. Then you're going to wait the two weeks, go back and get it stamped into your passport.

Then you're going to wait another 6 weeks or so and then go back and apply for the year extension based on marriage. <- and yes at that time you will need to get a new bank letter and update your bank book AND have all the photos, paperwork etc again..

I have to apply for a 90 day Non-O VISA 1st? Does this mean I cannot apply for a marriage VISA until after this... this is so confusing...

ahhh, you're only going to apply for the 90 day Non-O visa (in section C-1) out at Chaengwattana first.

You need at least 15 days or more left on your current stamp to apply..

The good news is section C-1 (that issues in country Non-Immigrant Visas) isn't busy at all and you usually don't end up waiting more than 30 - 40 minutes to get served.

a work permit doesn't let you stay in thailand :O , it lets you WORK here with the correct visa.

So you probably mean you were on a Non-B visa/extension.

I hope you have stopped out at Chaengwattana and gotten the hand out they have listing the required documentation, photos etc that you need to get your extension based on marriage.

You mean you're using the immigration office at the Chaengwattana government complex.

There are banks in the basement (and SCB is there for sure), just take your bank book with you,

You can get them to write the bank letter and update the bank book

Where are you applying for this 'marriage visa'?

If you're applying for a yearly extension of stay based on marriage at the immigration office you need a bank letter (usually less than a week old) AND you need to update your bank book on the day you go apply for the extension so they can see the money is still in the bank.

Fraser Hall i was told in Samut prakan immigration the letter from the bank is valid for a week.

the bank book needs to be on the day you apply.

i had done it the day previously and they told me to go and update it again.

I guess its office by office- find out exactly what they want in your particular office.

it's all a pain in the butt ,but there is no getting round it.

and that is true -any bank in thailand will do

Its a never ending farce to get anything here... SCB Bank is what I use, people say they only accept Bangkok Bank!! Crazy rules here. If I'm doing a bank update - is this not proof to re enforce the statement or am I being to binary for the IO office.
