Has anyone applied for an ED visa in Kuala Lumpur?

And could an ED visa be denied?

My School is pushing me to go to Laos to apply for the visa, as they are used to send students there and they dont guarantee other consulates/embassies.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion centers around the process of applying for an ED (Education) visa in Kuala Lumpur, with multiple users sharing their experiences and suggesting that while it is possible to apply in KL, many schools prefer students to apply in Laos due to perceived higher approval rates there. Some users mentioned their applications in KL went smoothly, while others warned of potential denials and the pitfalls of not adhering to school recommendations about which consulates to use.

There's nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo way in the world I would take a death van all the way to Nong Khai. Here's what I would do:

Fly to Udon Thani. You can fly there for 500b all in (honestly! just check on google flights). Then take a minivan from the airport to the bridge (200b), cross the bridge (there's a crappy old bus that actually takes you the 1km or so across - 15b), get into Laos - you need a visa on arrival - costs US$30, then there is a bus into the centre of VTE (30b).

If your school has got your paperwork in order then I wouldn't bother with an agency, as it's pretty straightforward to go by yourself

Hi Liam thank you for your offer! i ve never been there actually.. i will check if there are buses or minivans going from bangkok Mochit and then cross the border and continue to ventiane. or do you think it s better and smoother to go by an agency?

@Oks***
ok yeah i also thought to go find a bus by myself cos the school is asking too much in my opinion πŸ˜“ do you remember the company you went with? thank you πŸ˜™

I live in Vientiane, so let me know if you need specific advice. It's a really easy place to go and can be done very cheaply and easily, if you know how ;)

Yeah, i thought the same: should be the same in any consulate, so why pay twice if I can apply in advance and do not need to go to Laos... I was obviously wrong:) as for the Laos - school gave us contacts of some company who make those trips to Laos, but we (me and my husband) found one much cheaper and went with them. It was smooth and quick except that the trip is a bit tiring by itself:(

I am also in Pro language school, but Bangkok. They advised me to go to Laos, but I decided to apply in my home country in advance. Though they thought it was a bad idea. Well, I was denied and had to come on stamp and still go to Laos. So I would recommend to follow the advises:) and no, the consulates won’t give you the paperwork back:(

Then why not just go to Laos? Cheap and easy to get there (unless you're down south), and cheap and easy to stay there

Which schools are good with helping in terms of the ED visa? Currently in Thailand. Is the best strategy to do the admin with them here, then fly out to get visa?
Pam ***********
ORIGINAL POSTER

im at pro language pattaya, i dont know any other school to be honest. i chose that one cos of the location, the program and the price fit my needs. they organise everything for the ed visa, even the transfer in and out laos if you need.

I went to KL a few weeks ago and no issues getting my ED visa. But schools prefer Laos...

thank you Danny! whats ur school if i can ask?
Tod *********
Keep in mind MANY schools will give you a list of consulates they prefer you use, AND if you don't use one of the ones they recommend and get denied, you can't get a refund and you pay more money to get new paperwork to go get an ED visa again

@Da***
this is what i was thinking in case u get denied just take the paperwork and go to another consulate πŸ˜‚ Danny do you have a EU passport by any chance? πŸ˜‰
Danny *********
Won't they give you the paperwork back when you get denied?
Tod *********
I would say follow what your school is telling you. They know where their paperwork has the best chance of working.

The thai consulate in Kuala Lumpur is fine to use IF you meet all the documentation requirement.

Unfortunately, seeing as most of the pile of paperwork your school will give you is in thai you have no idea if you're meeting the requirements or not.

Here's what you need to get a 90 day single entry ED visa in KL
