TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion highlights the challenges of obtaining one-year education (ED) visas from Thai consulates in Southeast Asia, particularly noting that many consulates do not issue them. Instead, one might receive a shorter 90-day single-entry ED visa and then apply for an extension in Thailand. Suggestions are made regarding other consulates, like the one in Kota Bharu, though the approval heavily depends on an applicant's prior visa and entry history in Thailand. The conversation also touches on alternative options like the Non-O visa, particularly if married to a Thai national.

I got an ED visa in Khota Bharu last year in June. I had a 2

year history in thaiand on primarily non-b visas (with extensions at the local immigration with my WP). I also had one tourist visa (first arrival into Thailand) and a few visa exempt stamps.

I didn't personally have any issue getting my ED visa from KB, but then this was over 6 months ago so it could be stricter now. I knew they're a lot stricter when it comes to the second ED visa.

Why can't you get Police Clearance? Am intrigued...

since over one year the local Authorities and Embassies make it very difficult to obtain a ED Visa, even as a first timer. Again with so little information provided by OP it it a wide guess.

Believe me almost any thai consulate you go to in S/E Asia is gonna look at your prior entry history to thailand (by paging thru your passport and looking for thai visas/entry stamps) when they consider whether to issue you an ED visa.

I would say you MIGHT get the ED visa from the thai consulate in Kota Bharu.. BUT that's just a guess. Until you indicate how long you've been here all you're gonna get is vague suggestions on where you might be able to go. .. ...

Can you even get an ED visa? What's your prior history in Thailand? If you're married, just get the Non-O visa.

You will get a 90 day single entry non-Immigrant Type ED visa and then you will apply for an extension of stay at the immigration office inside thailand using documentation from the school

No thai consulates in S/E Asia issue year-long, multi-entry ED visas

I definitely saw the price for that kind of visa (750MYR) in Penang few years ago. And always thought that's a rare thing, available only for full time students in Thai Universities or something like that. Does it even exist anyway? ๐Ÿ˜
