Has anyone had a DTV, and then been successful in obtaining a work permit? I am in the middle of a work permit process, and its so slow that i got the DTV in the mean time. I'm hoping it doesn't affect the process in any way. And. I'm aware that you can only have one visa at a time.
I'm on a muay thai DTV, so there's nothing work related in Thailand with it so far.
Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the complexities of obtaining a work permit while holding a Muay Thai DTV visa. It is emphasized that individuals cannot hold multiple visas simultaneously, specifically noting that the DTV visa must be canceled before applying for a work permit. Participants provide insights about the correct procedures for applying for a work permit linked to a Non-B visa, and caution against seeking visa advice from non-Thai agencies to avoid legal issues.
He has explained his situation. He is in a DTV. He has a job offer. Once the paperwork is sorted he will get a B and WP. There is no indication he wants to work on a DTV for a local legal entity
You stated the OP was at risk of a prison sentence in Thailand for asking questions about a visa and a wp. Read that back to yourself and give your head a wobble. If it still make sense you need help.
The letter you get from MoL is the WP3 initial approval of WP. You need that to get the B. Then when you have B you get full WP. My WP3 was applied for on Visa Exempt. They would not accept it on an O as I had multi re-entry permit this it would be live if not cancelled first. I suspect the DTV may be similar but nothing to confirm that
Anonymous participant call it experience if you like. Prison will be relevant here if the unqualified "experience" you're getting leads you down the wrong track. But hey it's your funeral. Knock yourself out.
I know it can't be linked, as I mentioned i know you can only have one visa. My question was if anyone had experienced cancelling one when the other one was ready - specifically a dtv to a work permit.
Participant(e) anonyme you get a work permit on the appropriate visa. Otherwise it means you’re preparing for a job which is basically cheating the whole DTV purpose. If I were you; I would change visa ASAP before going any further with your process… your whole story sounds like potential nightmare with immigration.
Anonymous participant but you applied for a visa under the pretense that you would be working remotely? Now you will have the same company apply for a work permit? You can see how that could raise red flags, right? How long you been on the DTV?
What you're talking about doesn't sound correct. You apply for the Work Visa, and then you get 3 month Non-B visa, and once in Thailand apply for your work permit and then your extension of stay. At no point should your work permit hold you up from staying in Thailand.
The non-b Visa can be granted in 1 day if all your paperwork is in order.
It has been in the process with other new staff and myself, (hence a delay in documentation), the company, and a lawyer. Not sure. I guess I'll soon find out
Anonymous participant It could be they do not have much experience. It is pretty straightforward though. I am surecthere isxa list somewhere of documents required. The company ones are probably the most complex. Company I worked for sent everyone to Singapore for the B. Very efficient down there and do quite a few every day.
clearly i am not. However the company i work for in the US, have offered me a role that would base me in the Thailand office, once a permit is approved.
Anonymous participant Depending on your company it makes perhaps more sense to look into an LTR (so called smart visa). For remote work under an DTV you do not need a work permit.
What stage are you at with the WP? When the employer offers you a role he then applies to the Ministry of Labour for the WP. They issue you a letter. You take the letter along with your papers and the employers papers to apply for a "B" Visa (Usually outside Thailand - this is example I am using). Once that is issued you then take the B to Immigration in Thailand where they extend that "B". You then go to the Ministry of Labour where they issue you a WP the same length as the "B". This is my guess - you would need to cancel the DTV somehow before applying for a "B" would you not?
Anonymous participant OK - I never had that bit. I had an issue cancelling my "O" Visa to apply for the "B" which I had to "Pay" for (the cancellation) and then do a border run.
