Can you get a DTV for Muay Thai and then if you find a remote job (in a country that isn't) stop doing Muay Thai and keep the DTV?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, once you have obtained a DTV for Muay Thai, it is generally considered valid for five years, allowing multiple entries. Comments indicate that after obtaining the visa, individuals have successfully transitioned to remote jobs without officially notifying the Thai government. However, there are mixed opinions about the potential need for proof of ongoing Muay Thai training during visa extensions, with some asserting that ongoing proof may be required. It is advisable to stay informed about the specific requirements related to your visa usage.

Yes. Also, I received my DTV successfully a few days ago from the Thai embassy using Muay Thai Fever Gym in Chiang Mai. Derry (the gentleman who does the admin) turned out to be extraordinarily thorough in doing the paperwork; he provided everything necessary and the embassy only looked at a few of the documents. The gym also has champion 🏆 instructors, really really positive people and very good equipment. 👍 10 mind from Nimman Hemin Rd.

I don’t want to burst the bubble but the visa is issued as a 180 day visa for 5 years but each 180 day that you stay you have to prove that you are doing the preferred course or possibly a different course that is within the accepted criteria.

You can’t just obtain the visa and then digress from its proposed use

do you have a link showing that??

I don’t have a link available but I watched a YouTuber who lives in Thailand for many years who filmed an interview he had with an official of the Thai immigration who made this statement that you can extend your initial 180 days at the immigration office for a further 180 days and after that you will have to leave and re-enter Thailand via a border , you will also have to show the letter of the school you are attending, be it Muay Thai , cooking , massage etc etc to prove you are adhering to the criteria of the visa .

that is a bunch of BS. Immigration has not put out anything concerning proving what you are doing to re-enter the country, as many have been doing. The first 180 day entry stamp has not ended yet for those people staying in Thailand as the visa only became available July 15th. There have been people leaving, and coming back, as it is a multi-entry visa, and none of them have had to prove anything. Just because you've seen something on YouTube doesn't make it true, no matter who was interviewed.

Don’t overthink it and complicated

Here in Thailand, they don’t think about things that far and keep up with it . Once you get it, you got it. You can probably end up just leaving or quitting the Muay and it wouldn’t even matter. so that being said just move on do your remote job if you find one, don’t even bother updating Thai government or anything like that

Once you get the visa it’s good for 5 years, if there is some type of issue with an extension just leave and come back. It’s as simple as this

In a nutshell yes. Many soft power applications are for far less time than the 5 year visa validity. You can't work for a Thai person or Thai entity.

Common sense will say no.

this is Thailand. ONCE the DTV Visa is issued, it's valid for 5 years multiple entry. Simple Border bounces will keep you getting a 180 days extension of stay.

OK, good luck then. just don't get caught

no need to warn me. I'm on a traditional retirement visa one year extension. Others who have the DTV visa have already been in and out and back in to Thailand and have been stamped in for 180 days each time.

@Xandro *******
common sense would say yes since once the visa is issued, it’s good for 5 years.

I am just throwing the cat among the pigeons here so take it as that. What happens if the Immigration Officer asks to see ongoing proof of the Soft Power courses etc upon re-entry? (I do not even know if he can see the category of course) 🙂 :-)

it's a valid point.

With the ED Visa people were asked to respond in Thai at re-entry and refused when they could not :-)
