TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion centers around a user whose boyfriend, on a two-month visa exemption, plans to visit Malaysia for five days before returning to Thailand. Commenters clarify that as a British passport holder, he will receive a new 60-day visa exemption upon re-entry to Thailand, finding no issues with his travel plans.

I have a friend coming to Thailand late October, he is happy to rent a condo for a year . He told me it was pointless him getting a retirement visa like I got as he will just enter for 60 days then extend 30 days and fly to either Laos , Cambodia or Vietnam for week then return and repeat it again .I told him that the Thai immigration might not allow him 4 entries to stay over a year. He thinks I’m being over cautious, which I might be, however reading some posts on here it might be him being ambitious. He did say he might return to uk for a wedding in may for two weeks. What’s his chances ? I know the visa system is new so might not have been tested for multiple entries, he doesn’t want to pay £800 + for a 15 retirement visa or put 800k baht in Thai bank he said he’d rather use it to travel a bit more . Is his plan viable ?

after 180 days he'll likely start having issues. Regardless of if he returns to the UK for 2 weeks or not. Immigration will accuse him (rightly) of trying to live in Thailand without a proper visa and eventually they'll deny him entry and force him to buy a plane ticket out on the spot.

Where's he from ? Some foreigners can enter Thailand on free visa or VOA but not Malaysia. If he can enter Thailand when he arrives I don't see why he can't re-enter after 72 hours I think away.

If he has a British passport, he is currently on a 60 day visa exemption. If he leaves Thailand then returns, he will get another 60 days exemption. So, everything will be fine! Don’t worry.

Sounds like he doesn't have a Visa but entered free on a Visa Exempt 60 day stamp, the same he will get when returning from Malaysia
