Can I re-enter Thailand on a 30-day visa exemption after the expiry of my METV while still within the 60-day stamp validity?

Hi there. I'm from the UK, on a six-month METV, which expires on 28th January. (Although the final 60-day stamp won't expire until March.)

However, I have friends visiting Vietnam from the UK in early February and I'd like to go and visit them for a few days. If I leave Thailand after the expiry of METV (but still within 60-day stamp), will I get back into Thailand on a 30-day visa exemption?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user from the UK is on a six-month Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) that expires on January 28, with a final 60-day stamp valid until March. They plan to visit friends in Vietnam in early February and inquire whether leaving Thailand after the METV expiry, but while still within the 60-day stamp, allows re-entry on a 30-day visa exemption. Comments clarify that while technically possible to enter on a visa exemption, a re-entry permit is recommended to avoid complications.

you can apply for one at local immigration office anytime or at the airport when you leave Thailand for Vietnam.

Suggest you get a single Reentry permit before you fly ✈️ to Vietnam.

That keeps the 60 Day expiration date of your recent METV stamp entry...

Which can be extended for 30 ADDED days at your local Thai Immigration office after you return FROM Vietnam.

Yes, technically you can enter Thailand on visa-exempt. Your entry stamp is invalidated when you leave Thailand without a re-entry permit. You wouldn't have any valid stamp when you enter again after Vietnam.

But, it's another story if you would be questioned when you enter on visa-exempt after a series of entries from METV. This part is not answerable in this group.

thanks for this. So, is there some kind of re-entry permit I could apply for?
