I have been given advice I am not sure is correct.

So I will ask here, please.

I am 54 coming in on retirement visa from Canada.

Money requirements etc. are covered.

My question :

does my 45 year old wife come as a dependant of mine?

And if so are their other requirements she will need.

I was told that she would come as my dependent and is easy.

I am hoping someone knows definitely?

Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, a 54-year-old Canadian, inquires if his 45-year-old wife can accompany him as a dependent on his retirement visa in Thailand. Responses clarify that if they are legally married, she can indeed apply for a NON-O visa as a trailing spouse and subsequently obtain a one-year extension based on their marriage.

okay, let's see if we can't get some clarity on this

FIRST what type of "retirement visa" are you getting? I mean are you getting a year long, multi-entry Non-Immigrant Type O-A (Long Stay) visa <- the one that requires a police back ground check, 40K/400K out/in patient insurance, a medical certificate and proof of 800K baht or the equivalent in your bank there

OR

Are you getting a 90 day, single entry Non-Immigrant Type O visa where once you get your 90 day entry stamp you will apply for your yearly extension here?

Your wife needs to apply for a 90 day single entry Non-O visa based on being married to someone who has a "retirement visa" from the same thai consulate at the same time that you apply for your visa.

She CANNOT get a 90 day Non-O visa from a thai immigration office inside the country based on being married to someone on a retirement visa. That is not a reason they issue Non-O visas for in country.

If you two are legally married, she can get a non-o visa based as a trailing spouse, and then get a one year extension of stay based on being a spouse to a foreigner with an extension.

Is the marriage legal or de facto?

@Benjamin *****
not sure what defacto is, but she is my legal Canadian wife.

@Chris ******
de facto is common law marriage, where two or live with each other, behave like they are married, but never signed any paperwork.
