Good Morning. My wife wants to move to Thailand this summer for 6 months. I have a state job but work 100% Remotely allowing me to to move around. Is there anyone here that has a Gov job and is still working their position? Are you using a VPN to connect into your work system. And if so what method or VPN are you using?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is planning to move to Thailand for 6 months while working remotely for a government job. They seek advice on connecting to their work system using a VPN and whether it's permissible to work from Thailand. Responses emphasize the importance of checking employer policies regarding foreign work, suggest using a VPN (like NordVPN or setting up a Wireguard server), and share experiences from other remote workers in similar situations.

I’ve seen the NORD VPN advertised lots. What’s so good about them and how do they work?

i actually just switched to Surf shark as it was renewal time and they had a better price. so far it's easy to use and takes up less working memory resources on the computer. the discount code gave me additional months I think I'm good for over 2 years. like Nord, you can switch your connect location to the USA and other locations and they let you install on 5 devices. I think I like it better

My husband and I work remote from us companies . We just hook our stuff up to the router in our condo . Works just fine . I'm a social media marketing manager so when I make posts I just schedule them for USA Time

If your employer doesn't allow you to work in Thailand, you're not working in Thailand. Both DTV and LTR require employer permission.

I don't know which country and organisation you work for, but are you sure you are allowed to work from abroad?

I used to work for the Government and it was forbidden in my area.

yes! Was about to say the same. Pretty typical unless it’s a duty station.

Are you allowed to work in a foreign country? If not look into a series of routers called gl .inet (I added the space so it doesn't create a link). I have 2 of these. One is at my home in the US setup as a Wireguard server, and the other one I keep with me when I travel to act as the Wireguard client. Whenever I need to look like I'm in the US, I plug my laptop into the travel router and it VPNs into my house, so it looks like I'm sitting at home. Very useful for watching movies on my home media server, managing my smart devices, or for you would make it look like you are at home working.
