TLDR : Answer Summary
The consensus among commenters is that while seamen are typically considered remote workers, they cannot apply for the Distant Work Visa (DTV) explicitly as seamen. Instead, individuals who have proper documentation supporting their status as remote workers may have a chance. There are alternatives suggested, such as pursuing options that align better with their maritime work.

Unfortunately it doesn’t count, even though crew are the real nomads. Go the soft power route instead.

bad advice. Will work fine. Prepare a nice professional profile to go with application.

I tried with seaman’s book and ship contract, it’s not acceptable, because you work outside of the country and not remotely IN Thailand. If you are a seaman and got approved, please share the embassy and documentation provided.

I’m actually aircrew doing contract flying throughout the world. I have an annual work contract with one company, which is considered full time seasonal, bank statement showing income, proof of residence in country where I applied. The secret was in the professional profile. I am willing, able and do fly elsewhere in a special capacity. You can look it up but very similar to a CV. They actually sent a request in for the professional profile. Show that you have the funds to hang out in Thailand promoting yourself for work outside Thailand. But like always each embassy is different.

You can be remote worker but not seaman. If you have reliable documents about remote workers you can apply DTV.
