TLDR : Answer Summary
The consensus in the comments is that it's generally not possible to open a bank account in Thailand with a tourist visa, although some individuals mention it might be feasible with the help of an agent. However, the majority agree that even if it can be done, it's not advisable due to the complications that may arise, including potential account closure. Several users express that having a bank account as a tourist seems unnecessary and emphasize following legal procedures.
You question why its getting harder to get visa's here in thailand ie all the hoops you go through. Well thats because certain people try to circumvent what the goverment require for you to be here legaly. So how about not trying to find alternate ways and just follow the requirements. Your just making it harder for everyone else.
You already know the answer....and yet you are asking those that already succeeded.....its almost impossible but still some did it but did not share their experience....are you going to share your experience like what branch, bank and docs provided
Andy Portik I have a property in Thai since 2008, never needed any bank account. My condo common fees (22,000 THB a year) go to the condo management building, from overseas. They do not even know in which country I (and my Thai wife) live in. The fee is paid.
Carsten von Holdt You are right for the wrong reason.
An agency can open your bank account with a mickeymouse mobile number from the airport. When the bank does their sweep, after a month or 3, they may find that the mobile number is inactive or belongs to someone else. And ask you to go to your home bank branch to confirm it. While the account was open in , say, Maha Sarakham and you are in Bangkok, Huahin or wherever.
Lynnette Munozsome Individuals feel they cannot survive without using nfc/qr etc with mobile phone for all shopping... but would need a local account to do that ( ps T.i.T. Cash is king)
