TLDR : Answer Summary
To apply for a one-year visa extension after obtaining a new passport, it is recommended to transfer your current visa to the new passport first. This can be done at immigration, where you will need to present both your old and new passports. There is typically no fee for this transfer, and it is advised to have a letter from your embassy or consulate confirming the connection between the old and new passports.

They'll do the transfer at the same time, 4 more forms to fill in the same information and a lot of stamps.

I think it's important that there is a letter in the old passport, from the embassy starting the number of old and new passport, then they can do the transfer, to show that they are connected. I did some months ago.

Just take your old and new passport to immigration and they'll sort it out. There is No fee to transfer it. Your embassy should provide you a letter or stamp in new passport requesting transfer. They wont process a yearly extension on a passport that's about to expire.

they should give you this letter with the new passport

If you’ve lost it, the embassy can give a new one

It’s better to get this letter before transferring the stamp

As far as I know, you should move your current visa to your new passport and then do your extension.
