Got a friend here from Finland on a 30-day exempt entry (with 30 day extension) who is going to do a visa run to Vientiane. His passport is expiring in under 6 months, so he acquired a new one in Bangkok and got it today.

Does he need to get the stamp transferred to the new passport at Chaengwattana before exiting? Or would he be able to exit with both passports (stamp in old one) and apply for a Lao visa + new TRV with the new one?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A friend from Finland is on a 30-day exempt entry visa with a 30-day extension and has gotten a new passport due to the old one expiring soon. The question is whether he needs to have the stamp transferred to the new passport before leaving for a visa run to Vientiane or if he can exit with both passports, taking the stamp from the old one.

Oh and forgot to mention he is on a 30-day extension from Chaengwattana but I guess this will not affect the case.

nope, won't make any difference at all. Just present both passports when he goes to stamp out of the country. they'll stamp him out on the new one and that's the one he uses from then on.

no, he can just take both passports when he stamps out of the country and he'll be fine
