Hello everyone! My US passport is due for renewal and I am thinking about returning to the US for a short period. If I renew my passport there, how can I return to Thailand? I presently have a Non O-A. Thank you in advance for your feedback!

TLDR : Answer Summary
When renewing a US passport, it's advisable to consider whether to do it in the US or in Thailand. If you return to the US for renewal, you can show both your old and new passports when returning to Thailand. Alternatively, renewing your passport in Thailand can be quicker—taking around 2-3 weeks compared to 2-3 months in the US. If you do renew in Thailand, ensure to have your visa and re-entry permit transferred to your new passport with proper documentation from your embassy.

I renewed my Belgium passport in Bangkok. The embassy gave me a letter to give to Thai immigration explaining my passport was renewed. Upon receiving my new passport I went to immigration with my old and new passport and the letter Thai immigration transferred everything necessary to my new passport

Took me 3 weeks in the US 3 years ago then just show your old passport with the new one when you return

Just get it renewed here. It is much faster than trying to do it in the US. Here it is done by mailing, and takes about 2-3 weeks. In the US it can take 2-3 months, with 3months the norm. The embassy here has very clear directions under the citizen services section. I renewed mine last year, and it took 14 days.

By doing this you can get your visa in your new passport then you have no hassles, just remember to get your re-entry permit transferred too.

Just bring both passports. If you have a visa sticker they can’t transfer it but if you have an extension of stay stamp you can ask your local immigration office to transfer the stamps. You would need a letter from your embassy stating you have changed from abc133 passport to xyz789 passport.

All OA visas are multi-entry.

I didn't need a letter from UK embassy, they just sent me an email saying that. But I re entered Thailand using both passports, no problem. Same with 90 day report. Presume your visa is multi entry ?
