Ok you can get your visa based on marriage with out showing 400k in a Thai bank.
Does the same rule apply to retirement asking for a friend who's lived here 17 years.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion confirms that while a marriage visa may not require showing 400k baht in a Thai bank account, the retirement visa still has stringent financial requirements. For retirement visas, options include maintaining 800k baht in a Thai bank account, showing a monthly income of 65k baht through a notarized statement, or a combination of both. There’s also a suggestion that funds can be withdrawn after the yearly extension is approved, provided the account meets the balance requirement three months prior to the next extension.

The money doesn't need to be in the account ALL year, he can pull it out and use it as soon as he gets his yearly extension approved.
As long as it's back at 800K baht 3 months before he applies for his next extension he's fine ..

Tod...already done....thanks....(My mate was in a panic because he left it too late to do by post, so he went to the Irish consulate and they did his confirmation letter the next day. And it was accepted by Phuket immigration) Cheers anyway....I think LOS should stand for Land of Stress!!
Just contacted the Australian Consulate in Phuket...they said NO...Australians only! So looks like the Irish consulate is out on a limb. I got this thread from another forum last year... 'the dear old British embassy in Bangkok have said it is no longer necessary for UK retirees to get their proof of income letter from them as they 'want to concentrate on helping UK nationals who need help' and it is okay to go to any other Embassy/Consulate that will provide the letter' ......
, it might be a fact for brits but it's not a fact for everyone. :/
I had a friend whose Canadian and who lives in the US and banks in the US. He couldn't get a notarized income letter from the US consulate because he wasn't an american even though his bank is in the US and he owns a home there.
He had to go to the Canadian consulate and get the letter.

I am in a similar situation except I am using a combination of 2 x pensions and cash balance in Thai bank to equal 800,000 baht.
It's a fact.....I found out while I was getting my letter from the UK Embassy...my extension is due next week, I will use the Irish consulate next year..it's just around the corner from me.
As a rule, you need to use the consulate from the country whre your passport was issued for the income from abroad letter. I got no idea how a brit (even a welsh one) would be able to use the irish consulate to get a notarized letter.

He's Welsh, by the way!!

I am sure that ANY Consulate will supply a letter of income...some require more 'proof' than others?? My friend just used the Irish consulate in Chalong,Phuket.

To meet the financial requirements there are three choices.
-banking 800K baht in an account in your name the requisite time before your application
-submitting a notarized statement of income from abroad from your consulate showing you make 65K baht a month in income.
-using a combination of banked money and the income notary showing a total of 800K baht for the year.

Do you mean get a visa from a thai consulate like people get the year-long marriage visa without showing financials?
There is no thai consulate that will issue a year-long multi-entry Non-O based on being over 50 without financial proof..
