Can I resubmit my Thai Pass with new insurance after approval?

Hi all,

We already have received our approval for Thai pass but, have decided to buy a AXA insurance (as it will cover asymptomatic hospital stays which our original insurance didn't cover).

My question is can we resubmit with the new insurance without invalidating our 1st thaipass. We currently hold both policies and can cancel our first policy upto 20th January.

We fly 21st January so feel it's not guaranteed we will get a resubmitted thai pass approved in time.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user has received approval for a Thai Pass but wishes to switch to a different insurance policy due to better coverage for asymptomatic hospital stays. They are concerned about whether they can change their insurance without invalidating the approved Thai Pass, especially since they are flying soon (January 21st). Responses indicate that it is generally acceptable to keep the original Thai Pass as long as the new insurance meets the necessary requirements. It is advised to ensure the new insurance policy covers the required medical circumstances and to maintain documentation of both the original and new policies during travel.

0 percent no one at immigration "checks" the validity of your insurance. I would keep the original document of your insurance that matches the thaipass. Even if you have cancelled it....

Thank you everyone for the help! Really appreciate it 😊 Has anyone got into Thailand with a different insurance policy to their thai pass? Will look at cancelling first policy before we fly 😊

and those testing positive, asymptomatic prior to flying home will be in this boat.

There are more and more people catching covid in Thailand now and finding out on their departure pcr, needing a 10 day extension to their holiday which won't be covered unless they opt for hospital

yep...hospital or hospitel. As I understand it will be paid for by some insurers who cover covid positive without symptoms. Only two now will that I know of... AXA Sawadee Thailand and LUMA Tune Thailand.

ACS and Cigna no longer cover without symptoms on their newly issued policies.

New revised home isolation rules mean it's unlikely you'll be in either.

Eg. Will your insurance cover if you test positive at the end of your holiday and told to isolate at home/hotel for a further 10 days?

Will it cover asymptomatic stays in a hotel. Home isolation. This is where a lot of people are getting caught out as Thailands hospitals are getting full, more and more are getting told to isolate at home. Also testing positive prior to flying home and needing a quarantine hotel

No we're not covered for hotel stays but if they let us stay in the hotel we would be happy to cover that ourselves (already paid for 8 days in one hotel). Asymptomatic hospital stay only covered with AXA which we bought after thai pass approval

Yeah we're travelling for quite a while so have saved up. Hopefully at worst will only have one postive test & quarantine πŸ™

I haven't seen any insurances covered hotel quarantine anyway!

not home isolation. Hospital and Hospitel are covered....ask your agent.

And no cover if close contact.

no, apparently unable to travel is a different reason and should be covered.

At least it is with AXA

I am confused by your last reply.

Are you saying that if one tests positive for COVID WITHOUT SYMPTOMS that AXA will PAY your medical care for you being UNABLE TO travel/FLY back to your home country?

Are you in the HOSPITAL?

Are you in a HOSPITEL?

Or are you in a hotel, home or condo self isolatiing without symptoms?

I'm being told that insurance companies would consider this as a trip extension as being unable to travel and should pay out

Unless you are in hospital or hospitel under medical care...no coverage. The policy continues while under medical care.

yes but that isn't happening anymore.

They are sending people to quarantine at home. And for a tourist that means a hotel that will accept a covid positive person. A quarantine hotel.

Is that covered?

as I understand it...if COVID positive and the Hospital places you in either Hospital or Hospitel then costs are covered.

What is AXA doing now with COVID positive WITHOUT symptoms?

What are they paying for?

No problem, you already have your Thai Pass. As long as your knew policy covers everything you'll be fine. Immigration dont check the policy on arrival because they know you cant get the TP without it.

That sounds risky knowing how Thai Immigration works. If you have a Thai Pass now, just use what you have.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong. I trust Thai Immigration as far as I can throw them.

Are you properly insured?

Thailand does not want stories of lots of farangs dying coz uninsured.

Thailand does not want more Thai's dying because uninsured farangs stealing beds.

Insurance fair and proportionate demand for your benefit. If you need insurance, then you will need to produce current policy.

They don't check against what you submitted in Thai pass. Just bring valid policy and cancel the other policy. Keep your thai pass as is.

I would not change the Thailand Pass

Its approved...and whenever asked

All they want to see is that you have the insurance required. AXA Sawadee Thailand is good choice for important reason.
@Raimund ************
do you agree ?

Thanks.

thanks for the advice. Do you think if we cancelled our original insurance it would be ok still, as we still have appropriate insurance? Do they just scan the qr code (which I can see doesn't say what insurance you have)?
