Hello, i have a question about work permit renewal. to apply for non-b 1 year your wp has to be valid 8+ months. today some "agent" told me it's not possible to renew work permit during the year, only 1 month or less till its going to expire. is that true? if you have to have 8+ months to get visa you must have a possibility to update your work permit to fullfill the requirements. thx

TLDR : Answer Summary
The inquiry addresses the rules regarding renewing a work permit in Thailand when applying for a non-B visa. The author mentions needing the work permit to be valid for more than 8 months to meet the non-B visa requirements and questions the validity of information provided by an agent stating that renewals can only happen one month or less before expiration. Commenters suggest that it is necessary to synchronize the work permit and visa validity periods and recommend consulting with the Ministry of Labor for specific guidance.

You have to keep your visa and wp in sync. If get 15 months out of your multi entry non-b then you will have 3 months less on your wp every 15 months. It's ok for the first year or two but then leaves you short.

just additional unnecessary information.. Be sure your Non-B doesn't have additional note. Non-B multiple entry from Penang sometimes has the name of the employer on the sticker or the same page. In that case you cannot get WP with new employer you will need new Non-B multiple anyway.

I understand now thanks, WP and Visa are two different things from different offices. Yes, if you change employer or use visa longer it get out of sync. Alternative Extension of Stay at local Immigration, when you change employer WP and Extension get cancellend and you start with new WP and new Visa and be in sync all the time.

Think you will have to get a single entry visa until your in sync again. You can ask ministry of Labour, but I don't think they will renew until 1 month before...

for example 1.1. visa non b and your first work permit same date. in july you change profession/business and get new wp wdated 1.7. so when you have to apply for new visa the new permit wont be valid 8+ months. so you have to renew otherwise you lose visa.

no what I mean is if you use the multi entry visa for 15 months, then when you renew in Penang, you will only have 9 month on wp. If you use again multi entry for 15 months you will only have 6 month left. (After 30 months).

exactly that's the problem. thanks for your input. isnt there a possibility to renew earlier? i mean its not possible to stay synced all the time. for example changing company, getting new wp with date inbetween the year

Visit the Ministry of Labor in your area and just ask. Only Penang is handing out the 1 year Multiple Entry Non Immigrant B visa but limited to owner/directors of a company. Alternative is to apply for the 1 year Extension of Stay based on working at your local Immigration Office.

Don't think they have, but you wanted to live and work on an island. But Ministry of Labor does have telephone numbers, so you could use your mobile phone to ask a question.
