I think your employer should contact the immigration office down there and see if they can do a conversion from a tourist visa to a 90 day Non-B inside the country. Some immigration offices can't/won't do it.

Yes, but you need a minimum of days on your current stay and your employer needs to meet all the requirements of Immigration. To know this all best is to visit with your employer the immigration office in your area.
