Currently holding Non B (extension of stay) with work permit. Recently married a Thai husband. Want to switch to Non O (spouse visa) while keeping my work permit.
Questions:
1.Can I change without leaving Thailand? (some say I must leave regardless)
2.Instead of depositing 400,000 THB, can I use salary proof since I am still employed with a valid work permit (meeting minimum salary requirements).

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking guidance on switching from a Non-B visa (work) to a Non-O visa (spouse) after marrying a Thai citizen, while retaining their work permit. Questions include whether this change can be done without leaving Thailand and if salary proof can substitute the requirement for a 400,000 THB deposit. Community responses suggest that it is possible to change the visa type without exiting Thailand, especially if married to a Thai man, as financial requirements may not apply. The user is advised to consult their local immigration office for specific regulations.

If youโre now legally married to a Thai man, ask your local Immigration office whether they will let you switch your current stay from work to marriage, because practice can vary by office (sadly, a common inconsitency in Thailand).
If you are on a 1-year extension based on work, some offices may allow a change to a marriage-based extension at renewal, but if you are only on the original 90-day Non-B, you likely may be told to leave and apply for a new Non-O instead.
Do not cancel the work permit or job first until Immigration and the labour office confirm the sequence, because a Non-O based on marriage can support a work permit, but the switch has to be handled correctly.
Also, since you talked about being married but also mentioned a 400k THB deposit, may I assume that you are male, too (same sex marriage)? Because a foreign woman married to a Thai husband would not need to show any finanances. Short version: female foreigner + Thai man: usually no 400k listed; male foreigner + Thai woman: yes, 400k/40k listed; male foreigner + Thai man: legally should be spouse-eligible, but the public Immigration wording has not fully caught up, so that one should be confirmed with the local office before relying on either rule.
I am a foreign woman married legally to a Thai. I believed the 400K deposit policy applies to anyone married to a Thai national. Seems like it varies.
My Non-B visa was issued through the one-stop service at the One Bangkok. Given my situation, would you recommend I go to Chaengwattana since I live in Bangkok?
PositiveCorgi9787 It does not vary it is law, no financial requirements for a foreign woman married to a Thai man with the marriage registered in Thailand
PositiveCorgi9787 To the best of my knowledge, extension of stay based off a woman married to a Thai men is still without the 400k THB requirement. Only getting a new visa (from abroad) might incur this. But things change quickly and are applied incosnistently.
As for your situtation: If you plan on keeping your job, just don't change your reason for extension of stay. Should you however plan to make changes in your life that invlolve not working, proceed with asking your local immigration office for the best path forward.
Yes you maybe correct but should the say unfortunate thing happen you would just apply for a extension of stay with Thai family and apply for your thai marriage visa..
Gary Baldy Wilkinson that means keeping the right funds banked forever just in case and also, for a foreign marriage, going through all the hoops to get it registered in Thailand
When your extension of stay comes up for renewal you should be able to change the reason for the extension from working to marriage without first having to get a Non-O visa so no need to leave the country. Also as a female married to a Thai male there should be no financial requirements to meet.
