TLDR : Answer Summary
The question of whether a visa run can be done on weekends received mixed responses. Most users indicated that while one can do a 'border bounce' (a quick trip across the border and back) on weekends, official visa runs involving embassies or consulates cannot be completed as they are closed during that time. One user shared their positive experience performing a border bounce on a Sunday at Chiang Khong, showing that it can be efficient and hassle-free. However, it's essential to note that visa procedures can vary depending on visa type, and users highlighted the differences between the e-visa and traditional Canadian embassy visas.

for others the e-visa for a 6 month multiple entry is considerably different than the older Thai Canadian embassy one (of which I had 6 pre-COVID...loads of documentation is requested other than what is outlined in the application which you pay up front , and can delay approval (out of the Canadian office for some reason) for months ..I had to enter visa exempt , for example.. since flight was booked and only later was my actual Visa application approved and received by e-mail.

My recent experience at Chiang Khong with exactly same type of M (multiple entry) 6 month visa (issued out of Canadian Thai Embassy) was on a Sunday..an excellent day to do it. Not busy and simple straight forward procedure.

Carry Thai baht (do not confuse actual stay and wait in Laos for an actual visa application where often American currency is encouraged)...have available the e-mail print out of your Visa since , though innocuous looking as compared to the traditional plate type insert you will receive on Lao side..it shall be your official visa document ). You will receive 60 days and shall get same for unlimited crossings until visa expiry date clearly marked on your approval doc....also found there is VISA # which you use for your TM6 card (still used at land borders) for re-entry.

If you live far from Lao land crossings ...and wish to get a 30 day extension (example..last stamp before leaving for good) you can visit a local Immigration Office and pay 1900 baht if approved.)

Both processes are quite different though and will be recorded as such.

but you can cross the border and wait for the embassy to open.

Even if you do it working days still you will not get visa same day from embassy I assume

Stuart can i ask whats the cheapest and quickest border bounce from either Bangkok or korat. I've had my 45 day on arrival and my 30 day extension is coming to an end. Thanks again

Also look into Mukdahan / Savannaket border for bounce.

go to Laos, Nong Khai to Vientiane by the friendship bridge

You can fly to Udonthani from Bangkok however many people go either by bus or by train from Bangkok to Nong Khai then tuk tuk to the friendship bridge to cross over

You can catch the night train with sleeping- very nice ride approximately $1,000 baht

They have upper and lower bunks, lower is bit more expensive but worth it, they have power points next to each bunk for charging phone ect

Train arrives in Nong Khai in the morning, you can cross over and straight back in about 1 hour depending on how many ppl are crossing then night train back to bkk, train also goes through Korat Nakhon Ratchasima train station

sorry no idea up that way. I’m down south. Someone else on here may know or ask in a local Facebook group for that area.
