Can I open a Thai bank account in Chiang Mai with a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV)?

Has anyone been able to open a thai bank account from Chiang Mai with a DTV? Bangkok Bank just told me they dont open accounts for DTV holders, SCB just told me they require at least a 1 year stamp which is impossible with DTV, got a few other banks I could try but pretty sure SCB and BKbank were my best chances.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Opening a Thai bank account with a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) can be challenging as many banks, such as Bangkok Bank and SCB, have specific requirements that may not be met by DTV holders. However, some users suggest that success may depend on the individual branch and the personnel working there. It may be helpful to try different branches, particularly the main branch in Silom, or use an agent to facilitate the process. Providing additional context, such as intentions to purchase a property, may also aid in acceptance.

Use an agent to open the account more quickly than DIY.

almost defeats the purpose of having the bank account (saving money on transfer fees) having to pay an agent. Probably worth it in the long run I guess but would much prefer to not use an agent.

Tell them you want to buy a condo, maybe bring a brochure from one, you need a account to bring your money in.

Keep trying different Bangkok Bank branches. Depends on the person working there. I was able to open one on a student visa but i had to buy insurance from them. Or try an agent.

Officially with the dtv or student visa you are not allowed to open a bank account but many people are successful at Bangkok Bank

went to so many branches, they all say “no bank account for dtv”, you got it because you had student visa which is clearly better. I think I’ll just continue to use Wise and cash till they hopefully allow DTV holders to get accounts in this coming year.

What do you mean with not allowed to open a bank account officially? As far as I know it is just policy of the bank and there is no law about this.

So in fact they are allowed to let every foreigner open a bank account, but because they expect not to make much profit, and get a lot of obligations to prove there is no money laundering, they just don't want foreigners.

Definitely! Personal Accident Insurance is actually worth having if under 65 years because it covers you for moto accidents. Roughly the same cost as using an agent to open your account.

It also covers me with a valid motorbike driving license?
