TLDR : Answer Summary
It is possible to open a joint bank account in Thailand, especially if one party is Thai. Several users have shared their experiences regarding joint accounts, noting that while it may be difficult for some expats to open an account independently, there are options available when applying with a Thai national. However, some banks may not allow joint accounts or might require the Thai partner to be the primary account holder. It's suggested to inquire specifically at banks like Bangkok Bank, which has been noted to accommodate foreign customers more readily. Overall, it can be beneficial to open a joint account but proceed with caution regarding access and control of funds.

I just opened a bank account in Bangkok BANK,

I have a retirement visa, I had no problem, they gave me 2 debit cards so, I gave the other to my son and he can withdraw the money any time.

No just deposit your cash into your GF’s account

She can open , and your name can be added onto it but she remains primary

You get your debit card and bank app all's good

I have a joint bank account with my husband (non-Thai) when we were on an education visa. Only one person has access online and one person can scan QR code for payment, which would most likely be your gf…so would there be a point for you in this case?

Bangkok Bank is the only Bank allowing officially non Visa holders to get bank accounts at least until recently.

Talk to a branch which has other foreign customers.

already in 2020 was almost impossible to get in order to do retirement... Seems to be something wrong in the system that makes it impossible to do it legit...

Often they’ll allow you to open your own account at the same branch as your girlfriend . Certainly worth asking

I was just in a bank in Chiang Mai getting address updated and and some other documents. I asked about opening an account there as it might be convenient to have a local account. She said fine. I asked about DTV just for info in case it would be useful for the group. She made it clear no way. She also said something I did not quite understand but I am sure she said only for visa from immigration?????

probably meant ‘Non immigrant’ visa.

Yeah, I think you are correct now I think about it. She was also trying to get me to go to the branch at Central Festival. Said something like they are used to dealing with what immigration want :-)

I tried to open a joint bank account with my Thai spouse. They told me no joint accounts.

Idk if you can, but if so be careful. That seems awfully risky.
