Generally not needed. You can however provide immigration with an intention to leave by x date to x country if asked.

it does not hurt to have an outward ticket ( just purchase a cheap ticket , that is fully refundable )

a one way ticket to Vietnam is a great way to accomplish everything. You leave at 180 days, Immigration sees an exit ticket, it's cheap there and back and let's you start your next 180 day stay.
