Good morning to all 🤗I read another post, a member mentioned

'One main applicant + dependent spouse – one spouse obtains the retirement visa, and the other applies as a dependent spouse. In this case, only the main applicant needs to show 800,000 THB, and the dependent spouse does not need to meet the financial requirement.'

My husband and I, both in our 60's are applying for the 90 days Non O separately while we are in Vancouver 🇨🇦.

Upon arrival in Thailand, we intend to extend our retirement visa.

Can he be the main applicant and I dependant? Thus, we only need 800,000 Thb? We need to arrange our finances before our trip.

We will request multiple entry visa, visit elderly mum in Singapore.

Thank you to all in advance 🙏🙏🙏
Answer summary
A user is inquiring whether they can apply for a 90-day Non-O visa as a dependent spouse under their husband’s retirement visa, thereby only needing to show 800,000 THB as a financial requirement. The community responses indicate mixed opinions regarding this scenario, noting that the dependent spouse status typically applies to work-sponsored visas and that both parties may need to meet financial criteria unless specific conditions are met. Some users share personal experiences confirming that it is possible under certain circumstances while emphasizing the importance of verifying rules with the Thai immigration office.

I was able to get on my husband's after having my Non O for a year. We only have to show his income. You have to have a certified copy of your marriage license

With the retirement extension, when both parties are over 50 years old, the spouse can not get a dependent extension. Both must have their own retirement extension. The only way a spouse can get a dependent extension is if one of them is under 50 years old on a type O extension based on retirement

Just did exactly this last week. No problem. This was in Thailand, not through an embassy

Graham Margetts You got a new Extension of Stay but the question was what was your retirement visa originally, a Non-O or a Non-OA?

No. That dependent is only applicable on a work sponsored visa. Please feel free to change my mind as I'd love to be a dependent riding on my husband's non OA visa using only

This doc with thaiembassy.c o m is what lead me to believe a farang married couple needs to cover both financial requirements. (deposit or income) It's stated pretty plainly on the page.

Probably not. I don't know a single embassy that still allows this for a non-O visa. Some embassies allow it for the non-OA, but you would need to check directly with the embassy and weigh the cons of a non-OA over the non-O.

It should be possible to both get a non-O based on your own individual funds, and then you both get the first 1-year extension with your own funds, but for year 2 you might be able to have one spouse apply for the extension based on trailing spouse rather than their own retirement extension. You would need to check directly with your immigration office in Thailand to see if they would allow this.
