Well, finally approved. 5 years DTV. What a roller coaster.

Applied 20th August.

Approved 8th September

The templates help on here but I would highly recommend using grok.
Answer summary
The post discusses the approval of a long-term DTV (Digital Visa) after an initial application process in Thailand, and several comments provide insights into visa procedures. Participants share suggestions on the best approach to transition to a Non-O retirement visa, including financial requirements (such as having an 800K THB in a Thai bank account), the importance of having the appropriate visa to open a bank account, and current visa exemptions available before the September 15 deadline. The conversation emphasizes the complexities of obtaining a retirement visa while navigating requirements such as onward travel tickets and financial documentation.

I was told by immigration at Suvarnaphum that the 60 day free visa on entry ends on the 10th Sept. And BKK advised me that a tourist can no longer open a bank account. That means in future visa's.
Alan **********
Alan **********
Keith Mccue Either you or whoever told you that is mistaken. The reduction to 30 days begins Sept 15.

And a tourist hasn't been able to open a Thai bank account for quite some time.

Alan Rothwell are you telling the Thai immigratin in Suvarnaphum airport dont know what there doing.

They have an internal guidance sheet that we have seen, and it does state the 15th.

That said, we still expect some inconsistencies both before and after that date. For example, some travelers may receive 30-day stamps early, while others may continue receiving 60-day stamps after the 15th.

Generally, it takes a week or two for changes like this to be applied consistently across all entry points.

Just make sure to check the stamp right after, and if you see any discrepancies let the officer know to confirm if it was intentional.

Why come on an exempt entry when you know you want a Non-O retirement visa? It doesn't make sense. You can't open a bank account in the 60 day exempt entry.

Lynnette Munoz things just folded out that way, but thank you 🙏

Without the correct Visa (90 day Non O etc) you will not be able to open a Thai Bank Account, something that is critical in any application for a Non O Retirement extension!!! If I were you I would very quickly apply for a 90 Day Non O visa and even delay your arrival until you have it, unless you want to pay out another 30,000baht (+) getting an agency to deal with things for you

Just buy a cheap onward ticket to a neighboring country. Don’t need to use it. It may even have a cancellation policy.
John **********
John **********
Apply for the 90 day Non-O visa before you leave Vietnam. Not only will you not need a ticket out of Thailand but will also be able to open a Thai bank account and transfer the funds required for the 12 month extension of stay. Without the Non-O visa you won't be able to open a bank account and thus won't be able to apply for the Non-O visa inside Thailand.

I appreciate your input🙏

Please tell me, what are the initial financial requirements for non-O retirement visa? AI didn't help with this, kept fixated between 400 and 800K.

I'm asking because I don't 800K tbh now, but I will.

John Ozzy for the application to the 90-days Non-Imm-O Retirement Visa outside of Thailand, you either need a minimum of 800,000 THB equivalent in another currency, in any bank acccount anywhere in the World as long as it is in your name. Or prove that you earn a minimum of 65,000 THB equivalent per month. If you are NOT in your home country, you cannot use your original income documents (they would need to be legalized by the MfA of the country where you apply). If you apply in your home country, for the visa application you can use your original income documents, however for the application to the 1-year extension inside Thailand you would need your embassy's income affidavit. Or you show a bank statement that confirms 12 months of transfers of a minimum of 65,000 THB into your Thai bank account, month for month not missing a single month
Nongnuch ********
Nongnuch ********
John Ozzy you cannot get a Thai bank account on a touristic entry. You could use an agent like TVC (the owner of this group) to get around all these requirements, and get a bank account opened, the initial 90-days visa and the subsequent extension, even without own funds (!!). This has a price, though.

John Ozzy since you haven't collected 12 months of transfers, yet, your only option for the first 1-year Extension of Stay based on Retirement, is the 800,000 THB deposit in your Thai bank account. On the day you apply, you need the bank letter that confirms the money has been sitting in your account for a minimum of 2 months

Based on your post - TDAC is the least of your issues

Non-O ? - That is not possible on a Visa exempt !!

Arrive with the correct Visa

Or you will need an agent

Fist I've always got my 60 entry visa before I leave with return ticket.

How did you get a 60 day e visa without return ticket ? Now you only get 30 day's entry free 😉 and to do Non O 90 days from Australia I have to have ticket to do retirement
Richard ********

Kenneth Owens 60 day visa free is still available UNTIL 15th Sep, then they will reduce to 30 days from then on.

John Ozzy your only hope would be to use an Agent which will be 55-65k if they can do it at all your best bet is to apply for your non-o where your at get here open a bank account and transfer in your 800k let it season for 2 months and apply for your extension remember if you use an Agent you pretty much have to use an agency from now on and we chatter about Agents not being able to show funds means your on the next flight out of here ,do it right and no worries

Guys, I appreciate the input. It's too late to change things, also I'm not really sure about Thailand, and I love Vietnam so far.

But anyways, happiness is within, just like the God!

Let's tackle the subject of my post for now 🙏 I decided to buy a train ticket if I'm asked for a return ticket!

John Ozzy if you don’t have a Thai bank account and you’re unqualified to convert to Non-O retirement visa. Moreover, some people told me if people use the visa exemption enter Thailand ( even have bank account/800K) and unable to convert to Non-O visa after 15Sep26. Only tourist visa holders can apply. ( I don’t know is it true)
Graham ******
Graham ******
MagentaGoldfish4443 some Immigration Offices will not do the conversion from a tourism entry stamp to a retirement Non-O, not many but there are some. Conversion from a Tourist Visa and applying from a Visa Exempt entry stamp are two different things with two different TM application forms but I've not heard of the 15-Sep cut-off before.
Steve *******
Steve *******
John Ozzy You can't open a bank account on a tourist entry and you can't convert to a Non Imm O without a bank account.
Stuart ***********
Stuart ***********
John Ozzy you need to open a bank account in Thailand and you can't do that if you don't have a long term visa.

You can get a fake ticket (onwardtravel.com), buy a cheap bus or train ticket to Laos, buy a cheap air ticket to a nearby country, buy a fully refundable air ticket that you can cancel.

What I don’t understand is why you are going with visa exemption instead of getting the non O from your home country? Much easier.
John ******
John ******
Ralph Tyson buying a train ticket to Laos from Thai railways website is cheaper and you have an optional train ride to Laos.
Ralph *******
Ralph *******
John Ozzy Yes, I’ve done the same myself although it wasn’t cheaper but more authentic.
David **********
David **********
John Ozzy Based on all the comments and replies, I would suggest you just go ahead and plan on going to Laos or Vietnam at the end of your 60 days. Apply for the 90 day Non-O based on retirement and then come back to Thailand and open your bank account and transfer the funds.
Ian **********
Ian **********
Ralph Tyson they are not fake tickets. They are real bookings that get automatically cancelled anywhere from 48 hours to 7 days.
Ralph *******
Ralph *******
Ian Morrison Yes. Sort of. You get an airline reservation (PNR) but not a fully paid airline ticket. Thailand requires a confirmed or fully paid onward ticket. It may work but then again…
John ******
John ******
Ralph Tyson onward ticket doesn't provide for departures from Nha Trang
Ian **********

John Ozzy he doesn't want an onward ticket from Nha Trang; he wants one from Thailand to anywhere within the initial 60 days.

Ralph Tyson I'm in Vietnam, my residence is in EU. I don't plan to return any time soon to that messy lands. So would applying from Vietnam be easier when converting?
Graham ******

John Ozzy You should reschedule your Thailand flight and get your Non-O from Vietnam beforehand

John Ozzy

If that’s the plan

You will need an Agent for

Your Non-O !!
John *********
John *********
If any entity would request to see your return ticket, it would be the airline. The reason is that you plan to arrive as a tourist, visa free. Tourists need a return or onward travel ticket. If you fly with a Non-O, a return ticket is not necessary. Just buy an onward travel ticket.
John ******
John ******
I plan to go to early to my departure airport and see how it goes. Had anyone success with that?
Brandon ************
Brandon ************
It's not required in the TDAC and makes zero difference if you fill it out or not on the TDAC. Immigration can require you to show proof of your onward travel leaving Thailand, and that has nothing to do with TDAC. That's a tourist entry requirement, along with proof of funds and proof of lodging. They can ask for any of those.
